Computer Woes

First of all, Happy Mothers Day to all of the UK Mum's out there! I hope you've all had a wonderful and relaxing day... :)

which I most certainly haven't! Turned my laptop on this morning to find that it had somehow malfunctioned and completely wiped my hard drive clean. I did everything I could to try and retrieve it, but to no avail. So I've ended up having to use my recovery disc, which has restored all of my software...but of course I've lost everything else. All of my stored music and video files, graphics, photo's and fanfic. Luckily, I'd backed up most of it, due to losing everything once before, but I've still lost some things...and some of them are irreplaceable.

Does anyone know if it's possible to retrieve your iTunes library? I can't believe I never backed it up, and I'm going to be gutted if I lose everything. I had quite a few purchased songs (and videos) in there that I hadn't gotten around to backing up. I still have everything on my iPod, but I'm scared everything will be wiped off it as soon as I plug it into my computer. Does anyone have any ideas? Help!

I also had a copy of The Butterfly Effect by cousinjean on my HD, which I'm almost certain isn't available online anymore. If anyone has a copy they could send me, I'd be eternally grateful! :)

I think I should be able to find most of the other things I lost by searching the internet, but it's going to be so time consuming! I lost all of my internet favourites and am going to have to start from scratch.

I'm so fed up right now. :(

Thanks, Cara. It's mainly my folder of JM/Spike pics that I'm most bothered about. I hadn't backed it up for ages, so I'm missing all the pics I'd collected from his last couple of UK trips. Oh well, you live and learn...

Oh sympathy on the laptop.. that sucks!! Dod you try System restore at all? Too late now I think but it's brought me back from the edge of disaster once or twice!

I bought a seperate hard drive earlier this year and put most stuff onto that.. of course if *that* crashes I'm buggered but I figure that the laptop is more vulnerable

I couldn't even access System Restore. There was nothing left on my HD at all!

I've been thinking of getting an external HD for a while. I think this has given me the push I needed to go out and buy one! :)

Thanks for the link. I've always wondered if she was still around and accessible. I have almost all her stories in hard copy, including DL, but I'm so glad to learn that she chose to leave her wonderful work available on the internet after all. CJ was one of the first top Spuffy writers I discovered, and she remains one of my all time favorites.

Thanks, Carolyn. I only said to you a few days ago how much I dreaded this happening. Luckily, I'd backed up most of my important files a while ago, but I still lost more than I'd have liked to (including all of my JM/Spike pics from the last six months or so). I'm sure I've lost more than I even realise at the moment. It's a horrible feeling, isn't it? I know you've had your own fair share of computer woes lately. *hugs you*

I lost all mine too, and am busy visiting various places to try and re-save them. The CDS board has been a great help as lots of the pics/links were posted there. Plus I've grabbed back lots of Karen's manips.

Cal, I'm so sorry to hear about your hd loss. I've lost 2 hds and a 3rd time I lost my entire JM video clip file. I'm sure I don't have the most extensive collection around, but you're certainly welcome to what JM pics I've got saved on my hd. Let me know if you'd like me to Email them to you.
