I'm supposed to be taking a break from LJ...so shush, don't tell anyone I've been here. ;)

My copy of Spike: Old Wounds arrived yesterday morning. I've never been one to buy comic books, but I've bought the majority of the books that have been released since the show(s) ended. I need to get my fix somewhere! I've enjoyed reading them so much more than I thought I would.

Spoilers under the cut.

I loved this story. It's very Spike positive, and is the first solo one-shot with souled Spike in it. It takes place during AtS S5, possibly in between Destiny and Harm's Way. In it Spike is accused of being "The Black Dahlia" killer in the 1940's. He sets out to prove his innocence, with the help of Fred along the way. The book doesn't shy away from showing that Spike was still evil in the 1940's, but also does an excellent job of letting us see how much he's changed since he got his soul.

The artwork is very good, the story is entertaining and I'd definitely recommend it to all Spike fans. I especially loved the end of the book, with this line (said by Spike to Angel) being a particular favourite:

And unlike you, my soul wasn't somethin' I was stuck with. I wanted it back, I suffered for it.

That's the Spike I know and love! :)

I thought Old Wounds was better than the first Spike one-shot (although I did enjoy that one). Oh yes, I agree...he has got to be a fan. :)
