I'm supposed to be taking a break from LJ...so shush, don't tell anyone I've been here. ;)

My copy of Spike: Old Wounds arrived yesterday morning. I've never been one to buy comic books, but I've bought the majority of the books that have been released since the show(s) ended. I need to get my fix somewhere! I've enjoyed reading them so much more than I thought I would.

Spoilers under the cut.

I loved this story. It's very Spike positive, and is the first solo one-shot with souled Spike in it. It takes place during AtS S5, possibly in between Destiny and Harm's Way. In it Spike is accused of being "The Black Dahlia" killer in the 1940's. He sets out to prove his innocence, with the help of Fred along the way. The book doesn't shy away from showing that Spike was still evil in the 1940's, but also does an excellent job of letting us see how much he's changed since he got his soul.

The artwork is very good, the story is entertaining and I'd definitely recommend it to all Spike fans. I especially loved the end of the book, with this line (said by Spike to Angel) being a particular favourite:

And unlike you, my soul wasn't somethin' I was stuck with. I wanted it back, I suffered for it.

That's the Spike I know and love! :)

*tiptoes out again*

I've been told my copy will arrive next week; I'm bouncing for joy! My all-time favorite unsolved mystery is the Black Dahlia, and I've read a lot about it. Loved, loved, Elroy Leonard's book --- and the one written by the son of the alleged real killer. Plus: Spike! and Souled!Spike, so.... happy thoughts, happy thoughts...;-)

Thanks for the review! I've avoided most of the Spike comics because they seem so often to be about Evil!Spike, and that's not really my favorite Spike to read about.:) But this one sounds like something I would enjoy, so I'll keep an eye out for it!

Glad you enjoyed the comic. I thought it was very impressive too. The writer is obviously a fan.

I got mine from Forbidden Planet, which is a UK site, but you should be able to get it in the U.S from here (http://www.idwpublishing.com/).

Thanks! *g*

I'd never ever bought a comic book before I became a Spike fan, but I genuinely did enjoy this one. So like the Spike we know and love. Yes, that line is wonderful. *melts with you*

I've never been a big comic book fan, but I'm genuinely enjoying the Buffyverse ones. This one is great! But then it's about Spike, so you could say I'm a little bit biased. *g*

I thought Old Wounds was better than the first Spike one-shot (although I did enjoy that one). Oh yes, I agree...he has got to be a fan. :)

I've never been a comic book fan myself either, but I'm enjoying these...especially the books with Spike in them (surprise, surprise *g*).
