Yet another good episode. This season is moving along nicely! So much better than the Maryann storyline that dragged on for so long last season.

Things I Liked:

* There's an awful lot of blood in this show, isn't there?!

* Yay, Sookie finally staked Lorena! She's been a good character, but I think it was time for her to go. So glad Sookie was the one to do it!

* Tara and Alcide. It's so good to have feisty Tara back!

* No, a vampire isn't dead until their body disintegrates, Tara. So I somehow think Franklin isn't quite as dead as you thought! Yay!

* Debbie Pelt and Cooter. Now Alcide's killed Cooter, Debbie's definitely going to want revenge.

* I can't say it enough - it's so good to have kick-ass Tara back!

* Bill drinking from Sookie. So this is how they're going to deal with a certain incident from the books (more on that below). Sookie's in real trouble now!

* Loving Tara this episode. Bill so deserved to have his sorry ass kicked out into the sunshine!

* Bill not burning after drinking Sookie's blood is an interesting twist.

* I think I could get behind Tara/Alcide as a ship.

* So poor Sookie's in a coma. And we're finally introduced to Claudine, who's a character from the books. No spoilers here, but we're finally getting closer to finding out who - or what - Sookie is.

* The darkness is getting closer - and Bill's back. Don't let him take your light, Sookie!

* Sam saving Tommy from the dog fighting. Is there more to Joe Lee's hold over his wife and son than meets the eye?

* Jason without his shirt on. /shallow moment He's so cute when he's in love - and he's always thought he was too dumb to be depressed. Hee!

* So biscuits are what we call scones in the UK? I always wondered about that...

* Still loving Eric, although there's not enough of him for my liking.

* Eric drinking from Hadley to get information from Sophie-Ann - who still refused to talk.

* Now Eric finally knows the truth about Sookie from Hadley. Was glad to see that Eric didn't kill her - he bit into his wrist and gave her his blood after she gave him the information he needed.

* Jason 'interrogating' Crystal's cousin. Hee! I don't think anyone's ever called Jason smart before! :D

* 'I'm not into that shit (V) anymore, I just need some Meth.' I love Jason. And Lafayette.

* Jason, Lafayette and Tara at Sookie's bedside.

* Jason allowing Bill to give Sookie his blood. And Sookie screaming as soon as she opens her eyes. Let's hope she's going to be a bit more wary of Bill for a while.

* Pam! Eric! Russell! Loved this whole scene.

* Eric's concern for Pam seems very genuine to me.

* So the King of Mississippi and the Queen of Louisiana are now married - and the Magister is about to get his comeuppance. Yay!

* Looks like the Magister's finally lost his head. Goodbye Magister!

* I thought the pacing was better this week.

Things I Didn't Like:

* Sam's storyline still isn't working. Apart from when Sam saved Tommy, the dog fighting story was boring. I just wanted it to finish so we could get back to the real story of the season! It's so disappointing. I love Sam and think he's being woefully misused this season, but hopefully we'll see less of the Mickens (although I don't mind Tommy) from now on.

* Sookie's dream/coma sequence didn't come across as well as it could have done. A bit too cheesy for my tastes. I've seen it likened to Andrew, Warren and Jonathan's 'We Are Gods' scene from BtVS, and I'm inclined to agree.

* No Jessica. And I don't like Hoyt's new love interest at all. Summer? Really? *rolls eyes*

As usual, the good points far outweigh the bad for me.

So glad they didn't go there (book spoilers for this episode only - no future plot points mentioned):

* I'm so glad they decided not to include the Bill/Sookie rape scene from the books. It would have been such a huge mistake if they had. I think they took it as far as they could without completely ruining the Bill/Sookie relationship for good.

* I hope they put a bit of space between Bill and Sookie for a while after the events of this episode. I think we'll definitely see Bill/Sookie together again as a couple at some point in the series, but not too soon, please. I've been loving their separate storylines this season, and don't want them to end just yet!

Looking forward to seeing where the show decides to take us from here! :)

ETA: Sorry about the coding screw up - it should be fixed now. Hope I didn't spoil anyone!

And we're finally introduced to Claudine, who's a character from the books.
I thought they did a great job on the casting for Claudine, I did not think they would be able to cast someone who had the unearthly beauty that Claudine has in the book

So biscuits are what we call scones in the UK? I always wondered about that...
Biscuits have the same consistency as scones but they never ever have any type of fruit in them and they are usually served with meals.

I thought the pacing was better this week.

Yup, I agree and I thought the episode was one of the better ones probably because of the pacing .

In the U.S., biscuits are BAKED, not fried/cooked on a griddle.

American scones are are slightly more dense than really, really, good biscuits, which ideally, should be light and fluffy.

Occasionally, I do see recipes for biscuits that include fruit.

For more info, check out my posting on Yankspeak in my Memories.

I loved it all quite uncritically. I even loved the daft version of heaven, or whatever it was. It looked like the girliest little girl ever's idea of heaven, complete with frilly white ballet dresses.

I actually enjoyed Sam's part of this episode. I just wish it could be the last time we set eyes on his mum and dad. I'm not that keen on Tommy but I think he could grow on me. Not so, those two.

It was definitely very girly! :D

I tend not to be very critical of this show either. In fact, I'm finding it more and more difficult to find anything to put in the dislike section of my post each week. :)

I enjoyed Sam's rescue of Tommy, and I think the improved pacing helped it along quite a bit. I'm more than ready to see the back of his parents, though!

I think I could get behind Tara/Alcide as a ship.

I could handle a Tara/Alcide hook-up. They'd be pretty together. And if he can handle Debbie Pelt's insanity, he should be capable of handling Tara's frequent bad attitude.

And as far as recipe goes, biscuits are similar to scones in that they are both 'quick breads'. The primary difference is that scones are sweeter and more dense. Biscuits are a bit fluffier in texture, usually served hot, and aren't sweet in and of themselves (though they're usually served with jam or preserves, so sweet things are usually placed on them. But they could equally be served with sausage gravy or just eggs and cheese, so they're really more like a bread-neutral being either savory or sweet based solely on what's served with them as opposed to scones which tend to have a bit of sweetness to them and are a bit more crumbly/creamy-dense than fluffy.)

*edited because I do know the difference between they're and their. *headdesk*

That should quite a reunion "rubs hands together"

'I'm not into that shit (V) anymore, I just need some Meth.' I love Jason. And Lafayette.

He's such a dumb cluck he's adorable.

And Pam being all snarky under torture, no wonder Eric wants to keep her around.

Southern Biscuits

Recipe courtesy Alton Brown
Prep Time: 20 min Inactive Prep Time: -- Cook Time: 20 min Level:
Easy Serves:
1 dozen Ingredients
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons shortening
1 cup buttermilk, chilled
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Using your fingertips, rub butter and shortening into dry ingredients until mixture looks like crumbs. (The faster the better, you don't want the fats to melt.) Make a well in the center and pour in the chilled buttermilk. Stir just until the dough comes together. The dough will be very sticky.

Turn dough onto floured surface, dust top with flour and gently fold dough over on itself 5 or 6 times. Press into a 1-inch thick round. Cut out biscuits with a 2-inch cutter, being sure to push straight down through the dough. Place biscuits on baking sheet so that they just touch. Reform scrap dough, working it as little as possible and continue cutting. (Biscuits from the second pass will not be quite as light as those from the first, but hey, that's life.)

Bake until biscuits are tall and light gold on top, 15 to 20 minutes.

Better when made with low gluten soft winter wheat. Where it isn't available, use half cake flour.

Or that Lily White flour, right?

Yep. But I think White Lily really is only a regional brand.

I've looked for White Lily flour here in NM and they don't carry it. It was noted in a Paula Deen biscuit recipe and it is supposed to be the best for biscuits. That and the aluminum-free baking powder.

I have to admit to having a lot of residual good feeling for her left over from her stint as Wolowitz's nerdy/flighty botanist girlfriend on The Big Bang Theory.

I thought this episode was a bit "meh" for me. I keep missing the Eric and Sookie scenes!

The part that really bothered me, for obvious reasons, was the dogs scene. When that man shot that poor injured dog and tossed him onto a pile of dead dogs, I felt sick.

Stake all the damn vampires you want but don't show me that kind of inhumane treatment. I know it exists and it sickens me.
