I try to think of the comics and the TV show as being two very different things. I see them both as having their own canon, in the same way that True Blood has book!canon and show!canon. The only similarity is that they're based around characters with the same names.
I have mixed feelings on the Spike issue. In some ways I really don't want him to appear, but there's a part of me that can't help but be interested in what part he's likely to play if/when he does appear.
From what I've heard, it's pretty much a done deal that Spike will appear. I have to admit to being curious about where S8 will take the story from here. :)
