Spring Fever Part 1
May. 10th, 2007 04:59 pmFirst stop - Soho Revue Bar
As
spikereader has already posted her report on this, I could just direct you to hers as we were together for most of it. So, as everything (more or less) that happened to
spikereader before the gig also happened to me, I won't bore you all by going through it again. :) Suffice to say, it was wonderful to meet up with
lmbossy,
kazzy_cee and
spikereader for a meal and a chat before the gig. And just for the record:
spikereader is NOT a quiet person! :D
We srrived at the Soho Revue Bar not long before the doors were due to open and promptly bumped into
spikeslou, who it's always a pleasure to see! Once inside we said a quick hello to
bendy1 and
deborahw37. It was so nice to finally meet you both! :)
The Soho Revue Bar is a tiny, tiny club and was already filled to capacity by the time we arrived, so
spikereader and I found ourselves a spot on the pole dancing platform (which was an experience in itself), where we were joined by Gray Sunrise and Madelaine from MTS. Although uncomfortable (there wasn't a great deal of room), we had a great view of the stage. Now on to the best part - James. I'm not going to pretend to know a great deal about music, so be warned that this is just going to be my own impressions of the man and his music.
James opened with "Louise", which I have to admit isn't a favourite of mine, but I thought he sang it the best I've ever heard him sing it. He looked relaxed and happy to be there, although not as chatty as I've known him to be in the past. It turned out that the stage lights were very bright and he couldn't see the audience very well, which made it difficult to have the usual back-and-forth banter with the crowd. James seemed to enjoy himself though, and seemed to be quite tickled to be playing a gig in a "strip club". Someone requested that he sing "Button Down Vandals" and I'm so glad they did! He sang it brilliantly. "Don't Worry Son", the song he wrote for his son (aka "The sitting down song") is also becoming a firm favourite, although "Like A Waterfall" has to be my current favourite song. *melts*
Was this a perfect gig? No, of course it wasn't. There were a few bum notes and dodgy guitsr playing, but on the whole the boy done good! A fabulous start to Spring Fever.
After the gig was over I was accosted by a strange woman who I'd never seen in my life before. She gave me a huge bear hug...which was actually quite nice. :D It turned out to be the wonderful
spikesnn!! It was so good to finally meet you, NN. You really meant what you said about those muscles, didn't you? *g* She introduced me to
trishyb and Marilyn from the Bloody Spikeless board, who are just as lovely as I thought they'd be. I also met up with my good friends
deedee7daydiary and
stretfordditto. It was so nice to see you both again! *hugs to you all*
After that I had my firstterrifiying ride on the London Underground which
spikereader dragged me on to with
spikereader and two lovely CDS ladies, Exotic Mushroom and Helcat. It turned out to be not quite as terrifying as I thought it was going to be, and I actually ended up having fun! :D
And so ended the first night of Spring Fever...

I don't think there was any actually dragging involved - but you should have said you were terrified - I just assumed you were being your normal quiet self. *hugs*
Say hi to K for me.

Date: 2007-05-10 06:52 pm (UTC)I'm so envious of you! You're an old pro about meeting James now *wink* I can't believe you actually got to have such a private dinner with him, I'll bet it was wonderful; I probably wouldn't have been able to eat a bite if it was me LOL I don't know anything about the London Underground, but I've sworn off any and all subways (not that I'll ever be anywhere to ride one) because they look like a claustrophobic's nightmare on TV *shudder*
Anyway, glad you got to meet so many people from LJ and had such a nice time doing it.
*hugs*

Date: 2007-05-14 08:56 pm (UTC)How did Tabitha's surgery go??
I still can't quite believe I got to have dinner with him, either! I've met him a few times now, but I never get any less nervous. The one thing I've noticed is that I never think "Spike" when I look at him now. I think of them as two comlpetely seperate entities (and I still love Spike as much as ever!). He's just "James" when I see him in person. I think (at the dinner) we got as close to seeing the real James as we're ever going to get. And I liked what I saw. :)
I could talk about this subject forever. LOL!
Wish I could get to meet you in RL some day, Cara! *hugs you tight* Can you believe we've known each other for four years now?

Date: 2007-05-16 07:34 pm (UTC)Tab's plastic surgery went very, very well. I shouldn't even call it surgery because there really wasn't anything to it. It's healing very nicely and she gets the stitches out next week. We'll let it completely heal up over the Summer and then the rest of it done this fall.
I'm so glad that you have such good memories of meeting James. I know I'll never get to, so I'll just live vicariously through you. LOL
*hugs again*

I'm wary about traveling with Carolyn after hearing about her ability to get lost *g*
The London Underground is always terrifying - even after 7 years of living in London!

Date: 2007-05-20 05:28 pm (UTC)Carolyn is the most talkative quiet person I've ever known! *g*
Oh yes, she definitely has the ability to get you lost...and yet still have a lot of fun at the same time. It's a good skill to have! :D
The London Underground wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be...but I still won't be repeating the experience in a hurry!
