Life without Spike...
Mar. 14th, 2006 02:03 pmMy Spike/James withdrawal symptoms must be getting bad when I'm excited over the prospect of receiving the first Spike vs Dracula comic next week. I need me some Spike and/or James! *pout*
bendy1, my James pass arrived this morning. Thank you! It now has pride of place in my little box of James/Spike memorabillia, along with my two signed collector's cards from Words and Music. *g*

Date: 2006-03-14 02:24 pm (UTC)SSS is rather chatty isn't it!!! Not sure I'll ever be able to catch up, so I may have to abandon regular looks in on that forum! What an earth is it like when there's current JM news???????

Date: 2006-03-14 03:24 pm (UTC)Yes, the S3 is VERY chatty, which is why I haven't been as active there for a while. It is a Spike/JM board, but not in quite the same way as, say, CDS or MOZ are. There are some lovely people there, though. It was my first online home, so I have a bit of a soft spot for it.

Date: 2006-03-14 04:12 pm (UTC)I get the impression everyone there is lovely, but I don't have time to check 23 pages every day! Eeek!! I thought CDS was chatty but they only usually manage about 3 pages a day, and Moz is really really quiet at the moment! Even Lj is manageable.
Ah - if only I had more time!!
I have kept them bookmarked though because I've been looking at the other things on the site, and fics are always worth looking at later too.

Date: 2006-03-14 06:25 pm (UTC)::nods head:: I love the S3; I still think of it as my online home, but I gave up trying to keep up on the main board a while back. Unless you're online on and off all day long and spending very little time elsewhere on the web, it's nigh on impossible to read or even browse through every post there. Once I started reading LJs I found it harder and harder to remain an active presence on the S3 and gradually drifted away. Now it seems as if I'm only going *home* for funerals. But, one can be active by being selective; use the search function to zero in on posts by members or topics of special interest. Or, I know that some folks stay active in topic specific threads; e.g., Spring's Spikecentricity analyses or the fanfic recs, and appear only rarely on the main board.

Date: 2006-03-14 07:19 pm (UTC)Unlike other boards, JM news does not generate a frenzy of posting on the S3. While the S3 was originally founded under the name All Things Spike/JM (back in the ScoopMe days) as a safe haven for Spike/Jamescentric discussion, discussion was never restricted to Spike or James. And as the board grew in size and diversity and time went on, keen interest (such as mine) in JM's comings, goings and doings became more and more scattered among the members. There are plenty of "S'cubies" (for the 3 Ss in Soulful Spike Society - S cubed), even some early members, for whom Spike was never their favorite character, but were drawn to the community for the friendly, welcoming environment and the caliber of the discussions; sometimes serious, sometimes funny, ofttimes both, and fairly intelligent. After awhile I sought out Jamescentric news and discussion elsewhere. That's what I rely on MTS for.

Date: 2006-03-14 09:30 pm (UTC)I pop into MTS occasionally, but generally I'm a Moz and Lj-er with visits to CDS and JMF too when I've time and when it's busy at work I have to take a break more often than I'd like.

Date: 2006-03-14 03:43 pm (UTC)We used to have something to talk about , like upcoming conventions, concerts , TV appearances , but now, nothing. It's insanely frustrating.
I gave up on the idea of going to London in spring , but my hopes are high for the autumn.
I watched again my Words and Music DVD at the beginning of the afternoon ..
What's the SSS board you talked about with Karen?

Date: 2006-03-14 10:29 pm (UTC)I have the music part of my Words and Music DVD uploaded onto my video iPod, so I can take James with me everywhere I go. :D
The SSS board (or S3) is The Soulful Spike Society message board (aka the S'cubies), which you can find here: http://scubiefan.proboards48.com/
I've been a member there since 2004. It was my first online home and it holds a special place in my heart. :)

Date: 2006-03-14 05:16 pm (UTC)Still, Claire's willing to host a get together for a Spikefest later in the year if nothing James-y appears, and I'm going to hold her to that. Have to make sure it is toward the end of the year, then she can give us all the goss from Writercon too.

You know we're going to want to know every detail about it if you go, right?
well, it's purely for intellectual reasons, as an interested party and budding beta... and nothing to do with me wanting to squee over my favourite authors (
dozentimes ... and gossip would definitely be forthcoming *g*Re: Life without Spike

Date: 2006-03-14 06:44 pm (UTC)The lack of James news is so difficult ! I have to keep reminding myself that we have Smallville and Q and A and Shadow puppets but what I need is some gigs! * howls in frustration!*

Date: 2006-03-14 07:29 pm (UTC)I need James acting in a project worthy of his talent that will put him up on the big screen or in a weekly series. I'm happy for DB and AH, but I'm envious on James' behalf too. I certainly don't begrudge them they're success, but knowing they're available to see every week exasperates my frustration at the scarcity of James.

Date: 2006-03-14 07:35 pm (UTC)I pin my hopes on the fact that James and Steve said things are going well and that we know that James has turned down roles . When he is cast we know it will be something he wants to do though whether it's somethig the fans want him to do is another matter ;)

James and Steve always say that things are going well. James, at least in his public persona, virtually always puts a positive spin on things. And while of his acting gigs since Spike, the only project that I actually loathed was The Mountain, there's nothing I've loved either. ::sigh:: James himself has expressed doubt that he'll ever get another role in another show as compelling as Spike was in BtVS/AtS. The problem is that there are far too few really good shows and movies for the worthy actors out there. I continue to hope though. I just don't hold my breath.

Date: 2006-03-14 08:14 pm (UTC)But I like Smallville and I loved him in Millenium . He always makes the best of whatever he's in ( even The Mountain) I continue to live in hope
meantime I have my lovely DVD's and Spike

Date: 2006-03-14 10:48 pm (UTC)It's so depressing not to get any news. This time last year I was looking forward to the album launch in Coventry (my very first James event! *g*), but this year there isn't anything at all. *joins you in your howls of frustration*

Date: 2006-03-14 09:03 pm (UTC)Stupid question but my All-Things- Spike competence is sometimes severely lacking: did I understand well, is S3 the same as Soulful Spike Society?

Date: 2006-03-14 10:54 pm (UTC)Yes, S3 is The Soulful Spike Society. I've been a member there since 2004. :)
