I've changed my LJ colours again, to accommodate my beautiful new Spuffy banner and icon made by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] kazzy_cee. :)

My love of Spuffy has never faltered, but it seems stronger than ever lately. I've been rewatching S5 and S6 on Sky One (yes, I know I have the DVDs, but I can't help myself) and I think I've fallen in love with the Spuffy relationship all over again. Watched as a whole, the last three seasons of the show make a beautiful love story. Yes, it's angsty, messy and painful, but that just makes it more interesting to me. I don't want to see a romantic, "happy ever after" love story. I want to see something real, something that will make me sit up and take notice...and Spuffy certainly did that.

I loved Spike from the moment I first saw him in S2. He made an impact from his first appearance, and he was so beautiful he made my heart melt. But I didn't necessarily like him. He was pure evil from the start, and it never even crossed my mind that Spike and Buffy could ever get together as a couple. But then he started to grow and change, and by S5 he had completely stolen my heart. Then came Fool for Love...and that was it. My obsession with love of Spuffy was born and I've never looked back.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't have liked some things to have been different along the way (of course I would), but on the whole I was happy with the Spike/Buffy story we got. I know that lots of you don't feel that way (and I respect that), but it's how I feel. When I think of how far Spike and Buffy came from Spike's first appearance in S2, to the pain and heartache they had caused each other by the end of S6 (and I truly believe they were both equally to blame for the heartache of S6), to the love and trust they had for each other by the end of S7, my Spuffy heart can't help but be happy. From pure evil in S2, to Champion by the end of S7. What a journey it was! And I wouldn't have missed a second of it.

And post-NFA? My Spike and Buffy have found each other again. How could they not? :)

You wouldn't think it could become stronger so long after the show has finished, but that's how I feel, too.

Thanks for the comment. :)

I'm not completely at peace with the outcome (pre-NFA) of their relationship, but I am grateful for what we got to see. It will probably get easier after some time has passed, and I have the opportunity to re-watch some episodes back-to-back. I'm happy that you're happy, though! I totally agree with your post-NFA assessment, of course!

Fool For Love did it for me, too. That entire episode was brilliant and when we get to the end with Spike and Buffy, sitting quietly on the porch, they had my heart. Oh he did stupid things after that (Crush anyone?), but I was always cheering for him to get the girl.

Spuffy is still my #1 canonical couple.

Great post babe.

Thanks, Caraleigh. Fool For Love was such an amazing episode. It was definitely the episode that sealed the deal as far as my Spuffy obsession is concerned. :)

gorgeous banner, but even more gorgeous post ... I've been watching s6, and it made me sniffly for far too many reasons, knowing what is coming ... Riley uses the phrase "you're a hell of a woman" in As You Were, Buffy breaking Spike's heart over and over again, and the look is his eyes when she gives him the smallest crumb ... and I realised how many of my favourite moments are in Dead Things - where after saying she'd never trust him, when he asks her later she follows him ... only to then fight against herself behind the police station, with Spike as a "convienent" punch bag, with him still trying to save her ... *gulps*
and completely agree post-NFA ... although my Spike would have found Buffy as soon as he re-corporealised *shakes finger at canon!Spike*

Thanks, Claire. So many wonderful moments.

Hee! Oh, my Spike would have done too. *slaps canon!Spike upside the head* But in terms of what we got in canon, post-NFA Spike would definitely have found his way back to Buffy. I have no doubt in my mind about that. :)

Lovely colour scheme. It compliments the banner beautifully.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Spuffy. I came slowly back to the idea, having hated it ever since SR. Post NFA Spuffy? I'm not sure I want it to happen, although I'm fairly sure Spike hasn't 'moved on' from her. But he no longer 'needs' her. He's a little like Illyria, finding his place in the world again. Have you read [livejournal.com profile] myfeetshowit's (http://myfeetshowit.livejournal.com/132727.html?nc=17) about Spike's (in)ability to 'perform'?

Thank you, Pat.

He's a little like Illyria, finding his place in the world again.

I can agree with that. Only he'd come to realise that his place in the world was with Buffy. *g*

I haven't read it, no. I'll check it out. Thanks, Pat. :)

I think I feel the same way. There's a part of me that adores what we did get, and wouldn't want it any other way. And then there's that other part of me that just wants to "fix" things. But that's what fanfic is for, and thank goodness we've got both canon and fic.

Yes. I loved what we got on the show, but I'm not sure I'd be quite so at peace with it if we didn't have fanfic. Fanfic helps keep my Spuffy love alive. :)

Maybe it was because I came started watching BtVS right around the time of "Fool For Love" and also was watching the prior seasons' reruns to catch up on things, but at the time I was truly surprised by the revelation of what type of person William was. I, too, loved the episode - it's one of my all-time favorites. I always wondered if ME had decided to give Spike this background way back in S2 when the Judge told Spike that he and Dru "reeked of humanity." Not that it really matters...

Spike's character arc was, IMO, the best in the Jossverse, with Wesley's coming in a close second.

Well, it was catching a glimpse of Spike in a S6 episode on the TV one evening that made me want to find out things like who? what? where?. So I got myself every episode on video and watched them like a mad thing, one after the other. And my heart turned to Spuffy and that is where it has stayed.

Things didn't end the way I would have liked them to, but fanfic is there for me to have as many different endings and beginnings as I could possible want. And I'm doing a great deal of reading at the moment, so my Spuffy heart is full to the brim.

Beautiful.

Spuffy is simply magic. My obsession started with "Something Blue" and I just knew "my hour" would come. What they had it was worth all the pain they went through.

FFL is my favourite episode for so many reasons.

I rarely get a chance to read LJ but when I do I try to seek out Spuffy stuff. I still am very Spuffy, more so than at the end of Chosen, and believe one day Buffy and Spike will reunite.

I do believe Buffy was in love with Spike when she said those words but even more importantly, she loved him as a person, not just in the romantic sense.

Welcome! It's always nice to meet new people. :)

That's what I believe, too. They had come such a long way since the end of S6, and it was wonderful to see the love and friendship blossom between them during S7. Post-NFA, they would definitely have found their way back to each other. I have no doubt in my mind at all about that.

Thanks for commenting!

Love the new (to me, anyway) layout!

I've got to agree with you here- Spike's journey from S2 to S7 is one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen on a TV series. I fell in love with his character and am still in love, although now I have to get my fix from re-runs and fanfic.
