Layout change...and thoughts on Spuffy
Feb. 7th, 2006 01:22 pmI've changed my LJ colours again, to accommodate my beautiful new Spuffy banner and icon made by the wonderful
kazzy_cee. :)
My love of Spuffy has never faltered, but it seems stronger than ever lately. I've been rewatching S5 and S6 on Sky One (yes, I know I have the DVDs, but I can't help myself) and I think I've fallen in love with the Spuffy relationship all over again. Watched as a whole, the last three seasons of the show make a beautiful love story. Yes, it's angsty, messy and painful, but that just makes it more interesting to me. I don't want to see a romantic, "happy ever after" love story. I want to see something real, something that will make me sit up and take notice...and Spuffy certainly did that.
I loved Spike from the moment I first saw him in S2. He made an impact from his first appearance, and he was so beautiful he made my heart melt. But I didn't necessarily like him. He was pure evil from the start, and it never even crossed my mind that Spike and Buffy could ever get together as a couple. But then he started to grow and change, and by S5 he had completely stolen my heart. Then came Fool for Love...and that was it. Myobsession with love of Spuffy was born and I've never looked back.
I'm not saying that I wouldn't have liked some things to have been different along the way (of course I would), but on the whole I was happy with the Spike/Buffy story we got. I know that lots of you don't feel that way (and I respect that), but it's how I feel. When I think of how far Spike and Buffy came from Spike's first appearance in S2, to the pain and heartache they had caused each other by the end of S6 (and I truly believe they were both equally to blame for the heartache of S6), to the love and trust they had for each other by the end of S7, my Spuffy heart can't help but be happy. From pure evil in S2, to Champion by the end of S7. What a journey it was! And I wouldn't have missed a second of it.
And post-NFA? My Spike and Buffy have found each other again. How could they not? :)

Hee! Oh, my Spike would have done too. *slaps canon!Spike upside the head* But in terms of what we got in canon, post-NFA Spike would definitely have found his way back to Buffy. I have no doubt in my mind about that. :)

Date: 2006-02-07 08:40 pm (UTC)Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Spuffy. I came slowly back to the idea, having hated it ever since SR. Post NFA Spuffy? I'm not sure I want it to happen, although I'm fairly sure Spike hasn't 'moved on' from her. But he no longer 'needs' her. He's a little like Illyria, finding his place in the world again. Have you read

I can agree with that. Only he'd come to realise that his place in the world was with Buffy. *g*
I haven't read it, no. I'll check it out. Thanks, Pat. :)

Date: 2006-02-08 12:04 am (UTC)Spike's character arc was, IMO, the best in the Jossverse, with Wesley's coming in a close second.

Date: 2006-02-08 01:40 pm (UTC)Things didn't end the way I would have liked them to, but fanfic is there for me to have as many different endings and beginnings as I could possible want. And I'm doing a great deal of reading at the moment, so my Spuffy heart is full to the brim.

Date: 2006-02-10 04:24 pm (UTC)Spuffy is simply magic. My obsession started with "Something Blue" and I just knew "my hour" would come. What they had it was worth all the pain they went through.
FFL is my favourite episode for so many reasons.

Definitely worth it.
My first time posting on your journal
Date: 2006-02-11 08:21 pm (UTC)I do believe Buffy was in love with Spike when she said those words but even more importantly, she loved him as a person, not just in the romantic sense.

That's what I believe, too. They had come such a long way since the end of S6, and it was wonderful to see the love and friendship blossom between them during S7. Post-NFA, they would definitely have found their way back to each other. I have no doubt in my mind at all about that.
Thanks for commenting!

Date: 2006-03-05 05:04 am (UTC)I've got to agree with you here- Spike's journey from S2 to S7 is one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen on a TV series. I fell in love with his character and am still in love, although now I have to get my fix from re-runs and fanfic.
