So here it is, the first of my London reports. :)

This is long and rambly. If only I talked this much in RL! ;D

We arrived in London at around 2:30pm and checked into our hotel on Piccadilly, which was just around the corner from St James Church. I was already fairly excited at this point, but also nervous at the prospect of meeting up with some of my LJ friends for the very first time. K was very excited and was becoming more and more hyperactive by the minute.

Our room was on the eighth floor, so I had no choice but to use the lift (have I ever mentioned that I HATE lifts? Not a very good fear to have when you have a child in a wheelchair!). The room was okay; fairly basic but clean and spacious, which was the most important thing. After unpacking, the four of us (my husband, son, K and myself) decided to have a walk over to St James Church to see what it was like.

There was already a fairly long queue outside the entrance. I didn't recognise anyone, but I'm sure there would have been people from my flist there. So if you saw a strange, nervous looking woman, pushing a young girl in a wheelchair...that would have been me. *g* My husband and son were slightly bemused by the whole thing. But even though they don't really understand the whole James Marsters thing, they still accompanied me to London and spent many hours hanging around outside venues (aka sitting in a pub, drinking a pint and watching football), waiting for their crazy women folk to finish drooling over watching that "American actor from Buffy". So I can't complain. :D

Now on to St James...

We arrived at St James just before six oclock. Lisa (from JM Live) was there and introduced herself. She knew who I was straight away (must be all those emails I sent her. Me? Worry? Never! *g*) There were already a couple of wheelchair users there when we arrived, so we just sat with them and waited for the doors to be opened. We heard James do his sound check, which K found very exciting. I think it was then that the experience really started to come alive for her.

At one point I spotted a young lady walking around the market stalls on her own and wondered if it might be [livejournal.com profile] lmbossy. As it turned out it was indeed [livejournal.com profile] lmbossy, but I think we were both a little bit too shy to say hello straight away. To be honest, I was shy for the whole weekend. I really don't find social gatherings easy to cope with, especially when it's with people I've never met face to face before. Shyness is a curse, it really is!

Then at last Lisa came out and said it was time to go in. We managed to get a spot a few rows back from the front, with K sitting in front of a pillar. We had a fairly good view from there, except for three young "fangirls" who kept jumping up and down, shaking their jingling bottoms. :D

St James is a beautiful place, but I wouldn't say it was the best setting for a concert. The seats were dead uncomfortable for a start. I really must be getting old!

Sitting directly behind us was the lovely [livejournal.com profile] stretfordditto and sitting to the side of us was [livejournal.com profile] deedee7daydiary. It was lovely meeting you both, ladies. I so needed to see some friendly faces. Thank you! :)

Now on to the actual concert...

I thought Al Brittan was a very good support act for James. He seemed to be a bit nervous at first (probably due to performing in a church), but I enjoyed his performance a lot. K was particularly impressed with him and wanted to buy his CD afterwards, but he'd sold out of them. She was very disappointed. She thought he was cute! ;)

After Al finished there was a break of about 20 minutes...and I finally got to meet the lovely [livejournal.com profile] lmbossy! She was such a huge help to me this weekend and I honestly don't think I could have done it without her. *hugs [livejournal.com profile] lmbossy* Not long after that [livejournal.com profile] spikereader came down from the balcony to say hi to us. Another LJ friend who I finally got to meet! It was so nice to see so many friendly faces.

I'm not going to go into great detail about James' performance, as so many others have already said it much better than I can. But I loved every minute that he was on stage. He looked and sounded wonderful. He was dressed in blue jeans and black t-shirt, and had what looked like a breast cancer ribbon pinned to the front of his shirt. He was so very relaxed and happy.

K loved it! Her very first time seeing James and she was blown away by him. I know not everyone is a fan of James' music, but both K and I genuinely do love it. No, he's not the best singer in the world, but the heart and passion he puts into his music (especially when you see him perform live) more than makes up for it (imo). What made this experience even more special for me was being able to share it with my daughter. Life isn't easy for her, so to see her so happy was wonderful. And I have James Marsters to thank for that. :)

And yes, I did still get all tingly when he sang "Smile". :)

So the first part of our James weekend was over. It was wonderful to see him singing live again, but I knew that the best part of the weekend was yet to come...and boy was I right!

One picture I saw somewhere it is but I can't remember where I saw the picture at though.

I know what you mean about being shy.

I'm glad that you and your daughter had a good time.

Oh honey, it's sounds just fantastic. I'm so glad you got to share this with K. What a lucky daughter you have!

Also, totally am with you on the lift-thing. I use stairs whenever possible. If I have to use an elevator, I nearly panic when the doors close.

*hugs you hard*

Thanks, Caraleigh. I wish you could have been there with me. I really missed you guys this weekend. I'm sure my shyness wouldn't be such an isssue if all the Angelites got together! Maybe one day. *sigh*

But it really was amazing to see James again. And everyone was so friendly! I'm sure I'll get over this stupid shyness thing next time. :)

I'm painfully shy myself (in face to face meetings) and it is a curse. But it sounds like you and K had a great time. And kudos to hubby and son for putting up with the crazy women folk.

Being shy is a nightmare. I'm not so bad in a one to one situation, but group gatherings are really difficult for me. We did have a wonderful time, though and everyone was so friendly! :)

I do have a wonderful hubby! I couldn't have done it without him. :D

Great report Cal! So happy that K enjoyed herself - hope she wasn't put off too much by the mad lunatic woman flinging herself at you and chattering to her like I knew her! I know what you mean about Smile - one of my favourites; I cry every - single - time. Lou always hands me the tissue at that point. :grins:

Big hugs to you and to K - she's a darling and very lucky to have a mum like you. *snuggles*

She wasn't put off at all! *g* It's always great to see you and Lou. After we experienced Coventry together, I don't feel awkward with you at all! You looked great, btw. *hugs you tight*

Smile sends shivers up and down my spine. I love that song anyway, but when James sings it live... *sigh*

And i do love his deep , velvet voice. *quivers*
And weren't you happy in the end to have met all those friends from lj ?!

For me it was really the highlight of the week-end. :)

Thanks, Caroline.

Oh yes, I'm so glad I plucked up the courage to do this! Meeting everyone was wonderful. I'm just hoping that next time (and there will be a next time!) my shyness doesn't get in the way so much.

My Words and Music report should be up either later tonight or in the morning. :)

*hugs you tight*

Lovely report Cal, I'm so enjoying reading everybody's thoughts and feelings about the whole thing. Looking forward to part 2.

Say hello to K for me, and here are some *hugs* for you both.

Very nice report Cal and it was lovely to meet you and K. :) You have marvellous menfolk, how good of them to traipse all the way to London and wait about for you and everything. :) Re the shyness, you are the only peep I know that looks shyer than me! I'm the peep that steps away from James when he offers a hug!! Crazy or what? ;) You are so like me! I also hate lifts with a vengeance. Do you ever have the lift dream? You're in a lift and it goes up and up but then it continues through the roof and into space? No? Just me then *blushes*

Thanks, Ditto. I had a great time meeting everyone, even though I did let the shyness get the better of me from time to time. I still can't quite believe that I plucked up the courage to speak to you first! :)

I think we're very alike...and I'm sure we'd get along very well if we got to know one another better. Hopefully, we'll get the opportunity to do something like this again! *hugs*

My lift nightmares usually include the cables snapping and the lift plummeting to the ground! *g* But that was another fear I managed to overcome - if not conquer - this weekend. :D

*hugs* well, I got braver as the evening went on ... just wish I'd been brave enough to natter to you while I was waiting for boyf *g*

the jingly bottom girls made me giggle, especially when one of them ran past, jingling away, while the other one tried to sneak past with her belt held tightly to stop it making a noise :o)

*hugs you* I'm glad you (and K) had a good time ... although I think James should take most of the credit ;) ... and if you haven't seen them yet, you should go look at Pandis's pics at MoZ ... they are gorgeous (http://www.mozforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1256&st=90)

I know I was quiet, but I think we got along very well, Claire. You definitely helped put me at my ease. I'm much better on a one to one basis than I am in a group situation, but I'm hoping that now I've met everyone my nerves won't get the better of me quite so much next time (and there will be a next time!). :D

The jimgly bottom girls did make me smile, but they did get annoying after a while. Very pretty girls, though!

Hee. James was awesome, wasn't he? *sigh* There has got to be a next time! :D

Thanks for the link!

You know, I wondered if any of the girls from Bloody Spike were over there, but that pesky shyness got in the way again! ;) I got to meet DeeDee and Ditto though, which was great! Definitely next time! :D
