Interesting book meme, snagged from next_to_normal over on DW. :)
1. Favorite childhood book?
I'm not sure I have just one favourite childhood book. I was an avid reader as a child, so I have a long and varied list to choose from. The What Katy Did series of books were huge favourites that were read time and time again, so they would definitely be up there.
2. What are you reading right now?
I've just finished The Postmistress by Sarah Blake, but haven't decided which book I'm going to read next yet.
3. What books do you have on request at the library?
I am a member of my local library, but I very rarely use it these days.
4. Bad book habit?
Reading until the wee small hours of the morning, which is not always a good thing - especially when I have to be up at 6.30 in the morning!
5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
As I said above, I very rarely read library books these days. But as a child, it wouldn't have been unusual for me to have at least six books checked out at any one time.
6. Do you have an e-reader?
Yes, I bought a Kindle at the end of August last year. :)
7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
I prefer to read one book at a time, but have been known to start one book, get bored with it, and then start another. I usually go back to the discarded book when I'm in a better frame of mind for it.
8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
They definitely changed after I started reading fanfic (which actually coincided with starting a blog), as I devoured so many wonderful Spuffy stories that I didn't have time to read as many books as I used to. But since I've slowed down on the amount of fanfic I read, I'm back to reading as many books as I possibly can.
9. Least favorite book you read this year (so far?)
Well, as it's only January, I'll include the books I read last year in this. Hmm...looking at my list, I'd have to say it's The Weight of Silence by Heather Gaudenkauf, which I read as part of a book club. Not because it's a bad book (it's actually very well written), but because the subject matter is a bit harrowing at times.
10. Favorite book you’ve read this year?
I have a few favourite books from my 2010 reading list: The Passage by Justin Cronin, Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
Quite often these days. I like to try books by authors I wouldn't usually even think of reading. Taking part in a book club is a good way to do this. I also read quite a few books recommended by friends.
12. What is your reading comfort zone?
I'm not sure I have a comfort zone as such, as I enjoy reading lots of different genres. But urban fantasy is a big favourite, as is historical fiction with a sci-fi twist, such as Blackout by Connie Willis.
13. Can you read on the bus?
No, I can't read while travelling at all. It makes me feel nauseous.
14. Favorite place to read?
On the sofa or in bed.
15. What is your policy on book lending?
I'll only lend books out if I know they're going to be returned. So only to family and friends I know well. :)
16. Do you ever dog-ear books?
No, never. This is a huge pet hate of mine - I literally can't bear to see people dog-ear books. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.
17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
What do you think? *g*
18. Not even with text books?
Aaaaaagh!! No, no, no.
19. What is your favorite language to read in?
English, as it's the only language I'm fluent in. I know a little bit of French, but only on a very basic level.
20. What makes you love a book?
Good writing and interesting characters who stay with you long after the story is over.
21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
If I've stayed awake half the night just so I can find out what happens next, that's usually a good indication that a book is going to be worth recommending. I'm also likely to recommend a book if it touches me on an emotional level and is particularly thought-provoking.
22. Favorite genre?
I don't have one as such, although (as I said above) I do enjoy urban fantasy and historical fiction with a sci-fi twist.
23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)
If I'm likely to be interested in it, I'll read it. And that includes chick-lit and fluffy romance.
24. Favorite biography?
Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt.
25. Have you ever read a self-help book?
Yes. Mainly books about weight loss and healthy eating.
26. Favorite cookbook?
Definitely not Jamie Oliver, as he irritates the hell out of me.
27. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say they were inspirational, but I found Have A Little Faith and Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom very thought-provoking.
28. Favorite reading snack?
I don't have a favourite snack, but I do like a nice cup of tea. :)
29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.
I can't honestly think of one. I suppose I might have tried Twilight if it hadn't been for all the teenage fantasy hype.
30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
I only ever read reviews once I've finished a book, and my opinion is often very different to that of the critics.
31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
I'm okay with it as long as my review is honest and fair.
32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you choose?
French, without a doubt.

I'm not usually intimidated by books.
34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?
I can't think of anything.
35. Favorite Poet?

None now, but as many as possible when I was a child.
37. How often have you returned book to the library unread?

This is so difficult! I think I'm going to have to go with Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.
39. Favorite fictional villain?
Jake Pickering from Time and Again by Jack Finney, which is one of my favourite novels of all time
40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?
Whatever's uploaded on to my Kindle.
41. The longest I’ve gone without reading.
I can go a while without reading a book, but that usually just means I'm reading something else such as fanfic or too much LJ.
42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
I very rarely don't finish a book. I started to read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last year, but couldn't get into it, so that's still in my tbr pile. I did force myself to finish Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger a while ago, but I absolutely loathed it. *shudders at the memory*
43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
Not a lot. :) When I'm immersed in a good a book I live and breathe it. The house could fall down around me and I probably wouldn't even notice! Lol!
44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?
To Kill a Mockingbird. Gregory Peck is Atticus Finch to me.
45. Most disappointing film adaptation?
Even though I did enjoy it, probably The Time Traveler's Wife. It could have been so much better!
46. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
I don't usually spend a great deal on books at any one time.
47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
