I've seen this in a few places, but finally snagged it from [livejournal.com profile] dampersnspoons. :)

ETA: I forgot to mention on the recording that I'm from Birmingham, West Midlands in the UK.

Here's the words if you want to play along:

Say These Words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting Image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

The sound is a bit crackly, so I don't sound very loud on it. Which is probably just as well, as I sound awful with my Brummie accent. *g*

And to those of you who've met me in RL, this is probably the most you've ever heard me say! *is shy*

I like your accent!

So you scream when you see a spider? ;- )

Hee, thank you. I've never liked my accent, but I'm glad you do! :)

Yes, I scream very loud. And usually run away too. *g*

I love your Brummie accent - it just reminds me of my aunt and uncle/wandering around Birmingham with my mum, which we used to do when I was younger and my dad had taken my brother to watch the Villa (I was not and am not a fan)... I'm sure if I did the meme again my accent would have shifted like it does when we go up there!

Thank you. I've never liked my accent, but I suppose a lot of people feel like that about how they sound. :)

My husband and son are Aston Villa supporters, but my Dad and brothers support Birmingham City. I, otoh, don't support anyone. *g*

My mum technically supports Birmingham City, but mostly, strangely, in order to complain when they're doing badly... :D

Cal gets talkative! \o/

You do sound a bit more Brummie there than you do in person - recording tends to do that to a voice, I think.

And WTF is this bizarre thing with toilet paper and houses? ::boggles::

Yay! :D

I always think accents sound stronger on a recording. But then again I was probably trying to sound slightly less Brummie when we met in person! *g*

I have no idea! Such a strange thing to do. *the mind boggles*

It's weird how everyone reacts to Brummagem, isn't it? My father's half of the family were all Black Country or Wolverhampton way, so it's very familiar, but the accent is different here, even though Solihull is only fifteen miles away. It's always a slight shock to hear the accents when we go there!

It is weird. I've always considered myself to have a strong Brummie accent (and have always hated it), but my accent is nothing when compared to my friends who live in the Black Country. Now that really is a strong accent!

I know the feeling. My cousin's Nan was from Wednesbury and that was hard to decifer compared to the Walsall/Birchills rest of the family.

*g* It's a type of Halloween prank. There's an art to it: while holding the loose end of a full roll with one hand, you throw the roll with your other hand into the highest branches of a tree in someone's yard. When it loops over a branch and lands on the ground, you tear it off and repeat the process until the entire tree is festooned with long white streamers of toilet paper, like foil icicles on a Christmas tree. (You can also decorate the outside of a house this way; that's called "wrapping a house.") My sister always hopes that her yard will get TP'd each Halloween so that she can harvest the tissue the next morning, because her family's bathroom often goes through a roll a day! XD

Your Brummie accent isn't awful at all; it's fun and interesting! I love the fact that so many people in this meme sound so different and unique; it's the variety that makes it work. :D

*waves* Yours was actually the first one of these I listened to, but I've only just come back to comment. You don't sound awful, you sound lovely, just like you - and I think I might actually have heard you say more than this in RL. *g*

Now I'm off to do the reading meme you posted earlier (haven't read your answers yet, just snagged it and deleted them so that I could answer for myself).
