Day 08 - A show everyone should watch:

This isn't easy as people have different tastes and like different things, so there isn't going to be any one show that everyone is going to like.

But that being said, I already know which show I'm going to pick, and it's one that was actually recommended to me by people on my flist around five years ago. :)

And that show is Farscape:

Astronaut John Crichton assumes he'll be home in time for dinner. But a freak accident during an experimental space mission catapults him across a thousand galaxies to an alien battlefield. Suddenly, he's trapped among alien creatures wielding deadly technology - a battle that 20th century sci-fi pop culture never prepared him for. Hunted by a merciless military race, Crichton begins his quest for home from a galaxy far, far away...

Farscape has one of the strongest ensemble casts of any TV show ever. There are so many reasons why I love Farscape as much as I do (I could talk about it forever), but the characters and their stories are the main ones. John Crichton, Aeryn Sun and D'Argo are some of my favourite characters ever, with Aeryn Sun being one of the strongest kick-ass women to have ever graced our TV screens.

Farscape gave me everything I could have possibly wanted from a TV show, and left me feeling so fulfilled that I've never even felt the need to search out any fanfic for it. It was without a doubt one of the best TV shows I've ever been fortunate enough to see.

Just talking about it has made me want to rewatch it all over again!

My Farscape posts from 2005/6 (spoilers for the whole show)

Oh I love Farscape - in fact I was watching part of The Peacekeeper Wars this morning while ironing!

I loved Farscape! I was so sad when Zaan died. I loved D'Argo too, and Rygel!
I was weird enough to sorta ship Aeryn/Crais and Crichton/Scorpius! I know, I know...but I really liked Crais, and the slash between John and Scorpius wrote itself!

I didn't like the tv movies they made after the series ended though.

It's such a great show! And I really grew to love Crais, which I would never have expected.

I didn't like The Peacekeeper Wars as much as the show, but I still enjoyed them.

FX started showing Farscape from the beginning a couple of weeks ago, five episodes a week, and I started watching eagerly.

I was terribly disappointed. I don't like the characters; Crichton is just as much of a boring plank as Cameron Mitchell is on SG1, Rygel is utterly vile, D'Argo is the 'noble warrior' stereotype except without the nobility, Zhaan is annoyingly smug, and Aeryn is the only worthwhile character.

I thought it would improve when Chianna turned up but unfortunately her broad Strine accent grates horribly.

The plots seem horribly contrived to put them into temporary danger in every episode. The episode in which Crichton fell madly in love with a Peacekeeper technician particularly annoyed me; there was no logic behind it at all, no human male with two functional eyes and ears could possibly have chosen her over Aeryn, and it was obviously nothing more than a manufactured reason to create fake tension between the two central characters.

Yesterday, when 10 a.m. arrived and the episode was about to begin, I decided "sod it" and watched a repeat of Stargate SG-1 on Sky instead.

Well, I did say that there is never going to be one show that absolutely everyone will like. *g*

I obviously completely disagree with you. Although I will say that S1 is the weakest of all the seasons.

It's all a matter of preference. I don't like Stargate SG-1 myself. ;)
