Dollhouse
I've read mixed reviews of S2, with some people loving it, while others haven't been quite so sure. I have to admit that I've loved what I've seen so far. There's a strong possibility that my viewing pleasure may have been enhanced by the fact that I've watched episodes 6-11 over the course of a couple of days. But once I started watching it, I found I couldn't stop! :)
Wow, what a rollercoaster ride Joss and co. have taken us on! I was lucky enough not to have seen any spoilers, so the big reveal of Boyd being the head of Rossum came as a huge surprise to me. And Claire/Whisky shooting Bennett made me gasp in shock! Although thinking about it, I really shouldn't have been shocked that Bennett was killed, as any sign of romance between characters is usually an automatic death sentence in the Jossverse.
I have to say, though (possibly an unpopular opinion), that I really don't rate Summer Glau as an actress. She was okay in Firefly/Serenity and the Sarah Connor Chronicles, but she really is only a one-dimensional actress. She's exactly the same in everything she's in! It slightly annoys me that Eliza Dushku is constantly being slated for her acting skills, while Summer Glau is applauded for hers - when in reality (imo), Eliza is marginally better.
Anyhoo, back to the show...
Poor Topher! He has gone from the character I couldn't stand at the start of S1, to one of the most interesting and multi-layered characters of the Dollhouseverse. His character progression has been one of the best things about the show, along with Victor, who Ilust after adore! The episode where Victor was imprinted with Topher's personality was wonderful!
Highlights of S2 have also included Alexis Denisof (as Daniel Perrin) and Alan Tudyk (as Alpha). It was especially nice to see AD on my TV screen again. He really should get more work!
I'm looking forward to seeing how Joss wraps the series up in the last two episodes. It's such a shame that this show has been cancelled. It had such potential!
The Vampire Diaries
It's good to have my 'guilty pleasure' show back! It's proved to be so much better than I expected it to be, and I'm enjoying every episode more and more.
Damon continues to be deliciously evil, and is the most interesting of the two brothers (although I do likeAngel Stefan too). He is, however (as far as I can tell), completely irredeemable at this point. And I'm not quite sure why Elena pleaded for his life (he is evil after all!), but I'm not sorry that she did, as the show wouldn't be the same without him.
Supernatural
This episode was a bit too much 'monster of the week' for me, but was still enjoyable. At this point though, I'm more interested in the main story arc - and would have liked to have seen some fallout from Jo and Ellen being killed, rather than what we got. And there was no Castiel, which is always a shame! I love the dynamic between him and Sam and Dean.
Being Human
Wow, yet another fantastic and deliciously dark episode! This show is definitely my favourite show of the moment. I love all of the little character moments (like male bonding over The Real Hustle) that are interwoven with the darker and more disturbing aspects of the storyline.
And that ending! The telephone conversation between Nina and George was heartbreaking - and I'm now more convinced than ever that Nina won't make it out of S2 alive (eep!). I'd already guessed that something wasn't 'quite right' about Lucy, and was expecting her to be involved in some way (especially after she gave the crucifix to the vampire victim), but it still came as a surprise when she was revealed to be Professor Jaggat.
I can't wait until next week!
Hope everyone is well! :)

Date: 2010-01-25 05:14 pm (UTC)My theory, for what it's worth - which isn't much, is that she's still traumatized from the up close and personal staking of her Brother's girlfriend so she just didn't want to watch another one.

Date: 2010-01-25 06:43 pm (UTC)I'm completely hooked, too! :)
Yes, it was a bit weird that Elena saved Damon's life. Maybe it was nothing more than she just wanted to save him because he's Stefan's brother. And Damon did save her life earlier... Maybe that counted for something. *shrugs* The main thing is he's still alive, and I'm pretty sure there's going to be interesting changes in the dynamics between the two of them after this little road trip.
I haven't seen the latest episode of Being Human yet. But I'm hoping I'll manage to do that very soon. I'm dying to see the ending everybody's talking about! :)

Date: 2010-01-25 07:15 pm (UTC)I agree that Summer Glau isn't that good an actress. I found her Bennet quite annoying and yes her acting wasn't impressive. She was a great Terminator though (so was Schwarzenegger yet he has never been a brilliant actor). Amy Acker, Dichen Lachman and Miracle Laurie are the best actresses on Dollhouse IMO. I didn't like Topher much in season 1 either but he has become one of my favourite characters. And yes Enver is the true gem of the show.

Yes, she was. But I think that's the problem for me - she's only good at playing that type of character. She has yet to prove (imo) that she can play any other type of role. AA and DL are in a completely different league to either Summer or Eliza as far as I'm concerned.
Enver is a wonderful actor! Im looking forward to seeing what he does next. :)

Date: 2010-01-25 07:54 pm (UTC)Absolutely WORD on Summer Glau, though. Can't stand her. And one-dimensional acting especially stands out on this show, when you've got such fabulous actors in the supporting cast (which is also why I think Eliza gets ragged on so badly - it's hard to watch the show and not think it'd be 10 times better if she and Amy Acker switched roles).

I completely agree. Can you imagine how great Amy would have been in the role? She's such a good actress!

Date: 2010-03-01 05:10 pm (UTC)Yes, I would have liked more of a reaction to their passing, but I am enjoying S5 on the whole - although I would prefer to see less standalone episodes and more about the apocalypse if I'm honest. But yay for S6! :)
