James Marsters Fandom

A few people who answered my poll commented that James Marsters is their primary fandom, not the Buffyverse or SPN or Torchwood, etc. However, I hadn't even thought about the JM fandom being an option when I posted my poll, as I was thinking more about TV fandoms and was interested in finding out where the TV fandom interests of my flist lie these days. I probably should have been more specific in my original post about what I really meant. :)
I don't know why, but I think of TV fandom and JM (insert actor/actress of your choice here) fandom as completely separate from each other. I have my fannish interests involving TV and my (bigger) fannish interests involving JM. Spike, of course, fits into both categories, as without JM he would never have become the character we know and love. :)
Outside of TV, my primary fandom is without a doubt James Marsters. I actively participate in the JM fandom more than I ever have in any other fandom I've been a part of. I go to concerts, events and conventions specifically to see him. I've never done that with ANY other celebrity I've ever been interested in. If I meet someone once, I very rarely feel the need to meet them again. With JM, I'm always happyand squeeful when I get the opportunity to meet/see him again. I also enjoy the company of other JM fans, and meeting up with them is a huge part of why I'm still so involved in the JM fandom even after all these years.
I'm eagerly awaiting The Hub 3 and Hallowhedon conventions in October this year, where JM is a guest at both. I'll enjoy meeting/seeing the other guests of course, but JM is the main reason why I'm going. :)
What can I say? I'm a JM fangirl at heart! *g*
There isn't any reason for this post, other than to express my love for JM and the JM fandom. Long may it continue! :D

Date: 2009-08-14 09:34 pm (UTC)He is the only actor I have ever met, or have ever wanted to meet - and like you, love meeting other fans as well.
I probably won't be going to The Hub - as it is expensive, just to see james - but there again, nearer the date, I can see myself being persuaded!!

Date: 2009-08-15 01:20 am (UTC)It's only since getting involved in James fandom that I've had the opportunity to meet other actors/actresses, and while meeting them is always lovely, I never feel the need to meet them again (not even John Barrowman, and I've always been a huge fan of his). But James is different. I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing/meeting him in person.
The Hub is only around the corner from where I live, so I couldn't resist buying a standard ticket for myself and K when James was announced. I have a gold ticket for the Hallowhedon event though, which I'm really looking forward to! I'll be having a weekend away on my own for that one. :)

Date: 2009-08-14 10:21 pm (UTC)Oh, I think they're definitely separate things. I've always been more of a character girl, as opposed to the actor who portrays them. But I certainly don't begrudge people their JM fangirling, if that's what they're into. He is awful pretty. :-)

Date: 2009-08-15 01:28 am (UTC)It's funny, but I think of Spike and JM as two completely separate entities. Of course, if JM hadn't brought him to life so well Spike wouldn't have become the character we know and love. But he really has taken on a life of his own for me now. :)
And yes, both JM *and* Spike are both awfully pretty. :D

Date: 2009-08-15 09:46 am (UTC)Now this post made me realise that, BTVS aside, my primary fandom is Tom McRae fandom which is an oddity on LJ, I know.
