Fic Recs - Part One

Here we go. The first of my fic rec posts.

Warning: Many of the fics recc'ed here are rated NC-17. That means that they're suitable for adults only. Please don't read unless you're old enough.

All fics are Spike/Buffy unless otherwise stated.



Starting off with some of the first fanfics I ever read:

The Blood Series by the late nandibble. Nan was someone who I loved and admired as a person as well as an author. Her work deserves to be remembered for a long time to come. I miss you, Nan.

Summary: While controlled by the First, Spike sired a number of fledgling vampires, something he'd specifically refused to do ever before. Recovered by Buffy from the First, Spike sets out, with Dawn's help, to assassinate those fledges, while assisting Buffy with training the SITs and trying to avoid resuming their destructive sexual patterns of Season 6.

Spike/Buffy fanfiction by Cousinjean. I love all of her fics, but my favourites include:

The Butterfly Effect Rated NC-17. Summary: Five months after the events of "Chosen," a still grieving Buffy must follow a time-travelling demon back to 1997 (circa Season 2) Sunnydale to prevent him from destroying the timeline--and try not to destroy it herself in the process.

Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground Rated R. Summary: It turns out the Chosen battle was not the Apocalypse to end all Apocalypses. That one comes a couple years later, and ends with Buffy getting trapped in Hell. Can Spike find a way to save her without unleashing Hell back on Earth? And what will be the consequences if he does?

Perfect World Rated R. Summary: A slip of the tongue creates a whole new world of problems for Spike. Picks up about 4 months after "Grave."

Fanfic by Dutchbuffy2305:

Actions Past Rated R. Summary: Sunnydale, 1997. Buffy makes a wish, with consequences...Buffy from the past and Buffy from the future will have to square their destinies and their lovers.

Crossing into Unchipped Country and sequel Rated R. Summary: Buffy gets sucked into an alternate reality where she meets another Spike. Hijinks ensue.

Schoolbus Rock by Rob Sorensen. This was probably the first fanfic I ever read. A wonderful and moving story written by a very talented writer. Takes place directly following Chosen.

Fanfiction by Annie Sewell-Jennings: Annie's main pairings are Spike/Buffy and Spike/Xander. Her Spike/Buffy stories blow me away. If you're looking for fluffy Spuffy stories, Annie is probably not the author for you. Her stories are beautiful and heartbreaking. Some happy, some not. Her fic The Last Summer, in particular, had a profound effect on me. It is so beautifully dark and heartbreaking, yet left me with a feeling of hope rather than despair. Just amazing.

The Last Summer Rated NC-17. Summary: After the world is destroyed by nuclear apocalypse, Buffy and Spike meet up in Australia for what may be the last summer on Earth.

Illumination Rated PG-13. Summary: After Spike's rescue from the hands of the First, there's more than just flesh and bone to be mended.

Incandescence Sequel to Illumination. Rated NC-17. Summary: Spike and Buffy share coffee and secrets.

The beautiful and hot Nineteen Hours Rated Nc-17. Summary: Post-Chosen. Buffy and Spike together in one hotel room for nineteen hours of bliss following the end of the world.

The Ballad of Randy and Joan Rated NC-17. Summary: “She is a blank canvas, and he is not allowed to paint her.”

Rock of Ages Rated R. Summary: One church, two perspectives, and a thousand nameless sins.

Hard Candy Rated NC-17. Summary: Buffy and Spike, season six. No holds barred. Very NC-17. Angst warning.

Fanfiction by Devil Piglet:

Prayers to Broken Stone Rated NC-17. Summary: Spike, Buffy, Dawn, Cleveland. Starting over is harder than it looks. Post-Chosen.

Roundabout Rated R. Summary: Buffy goes Psycho Slayer, sending Spike and Dawn on the run. But a little homicidal mania never stood in Buffy and Spike's way before…

Fanfiction by Ginmar:

Affinity Rated NC-17. Summary: If you're under 17, definitely do not read this. Post-Doublemeat Palace

Fanfiction by Kalima:

Daemons Luminati Rated R. Summary: Can a vampire be dragged, kicking and screaming into the light? We'll see. Spike's a complicated guy, isn't he?

Fanfiction by Miss Murchison:

The Chiaroscuro Series Chiaroscuro is mostly R and PG. However, some content may be considered NC-17. Summary: The time is sometime after “As You Were” and “Hell’s Bells.” (Although Xander and Anya’s breakup didn’t happen precisely the way it did on the show.) Buffy has told Spike that she can’t love him and is determined not to give in and sleep with him again. But the Slayer has been having strange dreams . .

Fabulous fics here, Cal (and I've not read Schoolbus Rock either, so will be bookmarking that one). I've read and enjoyed most of them, but have found Annie Sewell-Jennings is not for me. Ginmar's Affinity is one of the best fanfics I've ever read though (and I wish she could get back to writing and finish Ever After too).

Thanks, Carolyn. I can see why ASJ wouldn't appeal to everyone, but her Nineteen Hours, Illumination and Incandescence really are wonderful. I agree about Ginmar's Affinity. So good! :)

I'm hoping to post my next list some time this week. K's been off school sick with a nasty virus, so I've had very little LJ time lately. She's going back tomorrow, though. :)

It's so nice to read these recs, like another poster said they are like old friends. I read some of them a while ago and I think it's time to renew my acquaintance with them. One of my all-time favourite is The Butterfly effect , it blows me apart everytime I read it.
