Spike

Because I haven't said it for a while, I'm going to say it again now. I still love Spike with a fiery, burning passion. No other character even comes close to him for me. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't think of him. He's as much a part of me as breathing. I realise how crazy that sounds, but it's true. Yes, he's a fictional character...but to me he is so much more than that. This is one obsession I never want to get over! This is one obsession that I don't think I ever will.

I haven't been posting a great deal lately, but I'm still here. I've been losing myself in fanfiction lately. I've needed to. There is so much going on in my life right now that I need an escape from it. Fanfiction gives me that escape. Spike gives me that escape.

Why, so many years after the show has ended, do I still love my vampire so much? Why does Spuffy still live on in my heart? Spike's story touched a part deep down inside of me and I can't let him go. And you know what? I don't want to.

IMO it's a classic tale that never grow old, two people from different parts of their universe (Slayer/vampire) who fight and quip and declare they can't stand the other person but the attraction keeps growing until one day it flowers into love. It touches us deep inside. And Spike's journey is just as compelling and who doesn't want to find out how it ends; not that Joss will ever tell us so we go to fan fiction to see how other people see it.

I'm glad that we didn't find out how it all ends on screen, because I don't think that Joss (as much as I love him) would ever have given us the ending that we wanted. Fanfiction is so much more fun, anyway...and can give us as many different endings as we want! :D

I guess that Spike means a lot to us in terms of achievement , and he lives all what he does with such intensity. His journey , from poet to monster rising to unforgettable hero.. there' s something universal here , something that totally transcends one destiny.

I might add , if Spike means so much to me it is also because of JM 'interpretation. In a way , I can't and won't remove James from the fascination I have for Spike. He put the fictional character to life.

You know how much I agree with that statement, Caroline. Without James there is no Spike. No other actor could have made Spike into the character that he is. It's one of the reasons why I love James so much! :)

Right there with you, Cal. I feel exactly the same way. And, I take it a little bit further: I cannot stand to see Spike with anyone else but Buffy. I realize this limits my fanfiction reading but I am a Spuffy girl until the end. :)

I totally agree. I've had characters I've enjoyed before, but they always faded. Now even years later I still get lost in Spike. I still devour all things Spuffy and I can't see that changing.

Hey, if anything about still loving Spike is wrong, I don't wanna be right! I'm just glad to know so many others feel the same way I do. I will say though, that the terrific fanfic writers who have fleshed him out in so many wonderful ways, deserve as much praise, as Joss, et al. I have spent so many happy hours reading fic that explores my favorite fictional dude and as long as they keep writing I'll keep reading.
