So the comic killed off one of the Buffyverse's greatest characters. I'm sorry, but I can't bring myself to mourn for a cardboard cutout of a character, no matter how much I loved him on the show. As far as I'm concerned, Giles is still alive and kicking, just as we left him at the end of the series. This may be canon to Joss and those who like the comics, but it sure as hell isn't my canon.

No disrespect intended to those of you who like them, but I can find absolutely nothing redeemable about the comics at all. I stuck with them for as long as I possibly could, hoping that they would improve over time, but instead they just kept on getting worse and worse. Very few of the characters are even recognisable as the characters I know and love, and as far as I'm concerned Buffy and Angel (two of my favourite characters of all time) have had their characters ripped to shreds.

Enough is enough.

Thats my response too I'm afraid. Like many of the other characters in this series Giles 'died' for me many years back.

Yes, I feel exactly the same. The show ended for me with Chosen/NFA.

I totally agree and since comics are not my preferred medium I have pretty much ignored them but this....this is unspeakably horrible. Even though I don't think of the comics as canon it still upsets me. All I can say is shame on Joss for doing this.

I've struggled with the comics medium myself, but stuck with them as I was hoping to see a worthwhile continuation of the Buffyverse. But unfortunately that wasn't to be. :(

This has been the final straw for me, and I agree - shame on Joss indeed.

I've never read the comics and never will. My Buffyverse is a great place. I hate the idea of them killing off Giles and it sounds like it's all been . . . . well, as you say, some like them so I won't be expressive. I'm just glad I've never read them.

Cynically I strongly suspect that if it became commercially advisable to resurrect Giles Joss would do it in a heartbeat!

I've got to agree. I would have reacted to Show!Giles' death. My reaction to Badly Drawn Comic Giles was... well, that was obvious. Probably not the reaction they were seeking.

Yes, it's difficult to have an emotional reaction to the death of a character who's barely recognisable as the one we saw on the show. I would have been gutted if Show!Giles had died, but can't even bring myself to care about this one at all. And yes, it was blatently obvious what was going to happen!

I'm so with you on this! S8 has so much to answer to when it comes to character assassination. Thank goodness Spike decided to fly away in his spaceship when he did! I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope that's the last we ever see of him in the comics version of the Buffyverse. I dread to think what they'd do to him if he stayed around!

I'm so glad I never got into the comics I do think they are cannon but like to think of them as in an alternate dimension so whatever happens there can be ignored lol.Wish I could say the same for season 6 though

You definitely made the right decision not to read them, Melanie. They may be Joss' idea of canon, but they're most definitely not mine! They're not even good enough to be considered an alternate dimension imo. Lol!

Aww, I love S6! I think S6 and S7 work better when viewed as a whole. The Spike/Buffy arc in those two seasons tell a powerful story imo. :)

The way buffy acted toward spike killed any spuffy love I had except in fic but over all was excellent writing will admit except for SR cringes still today over that one.

Oh, the idea of a comic Buffy never appealed - even years ago cause I am not a fan of them. When I heard that Joss said it was canon after Buffy robbed a bank; well, that cinched it. I never, ever dreamed what Joss would do to those characters!!

I am so glad that I have completely ignored the whole thing - I so prefer my own version of what happened after Chosen, big headed as it might sound. To me, the comics are not so much canon as something that should be fired out of a cannon...

And it doesn't sound big headed at all. The characters I love are much safer in the hands of good fanfic writers like you.
