Where you grew up: Birmingham, UK
1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks: A stream
2. What the thing you push around the grocery store is called: Shopping Trolley
3. A metal container to carry a meal in: It's plastic, not metal here - but it's called a lunch box.
4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in: Frying pan
5. The piece of furniture that seats three people: Settee
6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof: Gutter and drain-pipe.
7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening: A patio? Ours isn't covered - we just use a patio parasol if it's too sunny, or go back inside if it rains or is too cold. :p
8. Carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages: Fizzy pop.
9. A flat, round breakfast food served with syrup: I know they're called pancakes, but we don't have them here.
10. A long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself: A baguette or a sub.
11. The piece of clothing worn by men at the beach: Swimming shorts
12. Shoes worn for sports: Trainers
13. Putting a room in order: Tidying up
14. A flying insect that glows in the dark: I don't think we have them here.
15. The little insect that curls up into a ball: No idea
16. The children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down: See-saw
17. How do you eat your pizza: Cut it into slices and then use fingers. Or with a knife and fork if eaten as part of a meal (with jacket potato, salad etc.)
18. What's it called when private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff: We don't usually do that here. Some people sell things at car boot sales, but not usually outside their own homes.
19. What's the evening meal?: Tea - or dinner if we're having company. *g*
20. The thing under a house where the furnace and perhaps a rec room are: We don't usually have cellars or basements here.
21. What do you call the thing that you can get water out of to drink in public places: Water fountain - but again, they're not very common here. I prefer to carry my own bottle of water myself.
22. What do you call newly laid grass? Turf
23. What do you call the floor of a house above the basement? See above re. basements, but we'd call it the ground floor here.
24. What do you call the mechanical means of travelling up and down in a building: A lift or an escalator.
25. What is the thing that takes away pencil marks on paper? Rubber
Sorry I've been so absent lately. I'm still here and still reading, but haven't really been in the mood for posting, other than to leave the odd comment here and there.
