I've seen the worst and best of him. I've watched him change. He's a good man. He knows me better than anyone I've ever known. He loves me. How could I not have seen the truth until now? "I believe in you", "I'm not ready for you not to be here". What a fool I've been! Way to go, Buffy...your sense of timing has always sucked. You wait until he's going to turn into a great big ball of fire before you tell him. You wait until it's too late. Still...better late than never, huh?

She's seen the best and worst of me. She's watched me change. I love her more than anyone I've ever known. How could I not have seen the truth until now? The big poofter was right. She deserves a normal life. What a fool I've been. Bloody 'ell, Spike! Why wait until you know she bloody well loves you? But I have to do this...I need to do this. Not just for her, but for me. So I have to lie to her. So she can go on living...so one of us is living.
