I've just copied every single one of my LJ entries over to my IJ account, using LJ-Sec. It was so easy! I was expecting it to take much longer than it did, and thought that something was bound to go wrong. But no, it all worked perfectly! The only down side is that it doesn't copy comments over, but at least I now have a complete back-up journal to LJ. I've privatised some of my older entries, and will probably go back and privatise a few more when I have time, but on the whole I'm happy with it. :)

Looking back over my old entries has made me feel so nostalgic. I was so innocent to the ways of fandom and internet life back then...and probably even more open about my life than I am now, believe it or not. I know I'm not as naive as I once was, that's for sure. I'm a very different person to the one I was four? years ago, when I ventured online for the first time, following the end of BtVS. A decision I've never looked back on, even if it has been a bit of a rocky ride at times!

One thing I noticed is that I've just passed my 3 year LJ anniversary. My first post was July 2004. Wow! Time really does fly. I migrated here (LJ) along with some of my long term Buffyverse friends - [livejournal.com profile] southernbangel, [livejournal.com profile] makd, [livejournal.com profile] raelee, [livejournal.com profile] cdn_tvaddict, [livejournal.com profile] showmewrtr, [livejournal.com profile] angelspike69 and [livejournal.com profile] cara_leigh9 to name but a few - mainly to keep up with my favourite fanfic authors, but it soon became so much more than that. It makes me sad to see how unsettled it is on LJ at the moment, with so many people moving on to other journal/blogging sites. My only hope is that we don't all spread our wings too wide. I would hate to see this wonderful community we've built here (and it is a wonderful community, in spite of LJ/6A) fall to pieces, never to be repaired. I'd like to think that we all mean more to one another than that. But only time will tell, I suppose. *sigh*

*hugs flist*

I did the same. It was super easy! :o)

I sure hope fandom doesn't leave LJ. Despite all the recent hubbub, we really have it good here...

How did you transfer your files over? I found one tutorial, did everything it told me to do, and it failed. =\

It's interesting that everyone keeps saying people are leaving but not one of my list has actually gone - they're just backing things up on other journals.

I wonder how many people have actually left???

I must do that transfer thing, though I've no intention of actually going anywhere.

Well said. I came for the fic, but I'm staying for the people and the way it really does feel like a community.

I've backed my journal up with ljArchive but I might look in to copying it across to IJ as well in case my computer decides to throw a wobbly. There are nearly four years of my life on here and I would have to lose it.

I'm so glad to hear it went smoothly, because I've been terribly nervous about it! I downloaded LJ-SEC but have been afraid to try yet.

So much happens in comments that I would hate to lose them, but LJ Book saves comments to a PDF book you can keep on your hard drive or print out, so I want to try that as well. And LJ Archive. Since these save comments, even if one can't export them to another journaling site, at least they'd still be around for you in another format.
