So they're making a new Buffy movie...
Not so long ago I would have been devastated by this news...but now? *shrugs* Not so much. I think I've finally (after all these years) made my peace with the end of the show.
Don't get me wrong, it isn't that I've fallen out of love with BtVS the show or the Spike/Buffy relationship. It's that any remake or reboot isn't going to be the Buffy the Vampire Slayer I know and love. And without the Scoobies, or Spike, or Angel, I have zero interest in whatever it is they decide to come up with. I love the TV show with all of my heart, but time moves on and things change, and I think it's inevitable that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise will move on with it.
And...I'm okay with that.
I never thought the time would come when I would ever say that, but...I really am okay with it.
I'm certainly not against a reboot if it's done well (although I think it's way too soon to be honest), and I hope the resulting movie is a good one. But what made Buffy the Vampire Slayer such a great show for me was its characters, and without them? It just won't be my Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But if you're a new fan seeing Buffy for the very first time, and have no idea just how wonderfully rich and complex the original show and its characters were (are)? Then maybe, just maybe, it will work for you.
And I'll be happy for all those new fans who will be discovering Buffy for the very first time, and not a little envious of those who will go on to discover the TV show for the very first time, seeing with fresh eyes all the things that made Buffy the Vampire Slayer such an iconic show in the first place.
So I genuinely hope the rebooted movie does well. But as for me? I'll be sticking with the TV show and fanfic, thank you very much. And fondly remembering how fandom used to be in the good old days, before it slowly started to slip away and the time grew ever closer for the porch lights to finally go out.

I have zero interest in it, but I really do hope it will do well.
ETA: I couldn't leave 'init' as it was, so edited it to change it. Lol!

If the movie sucks, well, it would be hard for it to suck as much as the comics, right?

I think the comics are mostly to blame for why I feel so disinterested in it, to be honest. Nothing could ever do as much damage to the fandom as the comics have, and I can quite happily ignore the movie if its rubbish, as Joss isn't involved, so it will never ever be canon to me.

I couldn't care less.
The thing is yeah, we don't need to get worked up about this - the show is what matters and the sole source material for me with actors who immortalized the characters .

I hope it does well, but I have absolutely zero interest in it. I'm okay with the Buffy franchise moving on, but that will never take anything away from how great the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show was. I'll always have my DVDs. :)

Secondly, I'm pretty much in the why on earth? column here. Without Joss, it won't be Buffy, and that's all there is to say about that.
Now, if somebody who cares did a movie about one of the newly activated Potentials, with some homage to the original cast and creator, that might be worth the effort. If it's just an attempt to snag the fans and make some money (and just how stupid do they think we are anyway?), why bother?

I'm a bit more "OH GOD NO" about the new movie, but who knows? Maybe like the new Star Trek it'll rock.
