As most of you who know me are aware I'm far from being a fan of the Buffy comics. However, it appears that something good has come out of them - Spike/Buffy "fire escape!fic". This is fic which uses the Spike and Buffy scene on the fire escape of Dawn and Xander's apartment as a jumping off point for new stories involving our favourite couple. [personal profile] slaymesoftly posts about it here and includes a list of all the stories available so far.

So today, not only have I found myself reading Spike/Buffy fanfic (something I hadn't done for well over a year), but I've also found myself reading post-S8 Spike/Buffy fanfic. And what's even more surprising is that I'm really enjoying it! It's fresh, exciting, and brings something new to the table that I think was very much needed.

I'd come to the point in my fanfic reading life where I think I'd read pretty much every Spike/Buffy scenario possible, and as much as I still loved those stories, I no longer felt as compelled to read them as I once had. But now, with the emergence of S8 (and S9) there are even more possibilities open to us. No, I don't like the source material, but I love how certain authors are using that material to create a whole new genre of Spike/Buffy stories for us to enjoy.

You know, I think there may just be some life left in this old fandom after all. :)

I'm trying to take my mind off a RL drama that's unfolding right now, so thought I might as well post about a few things that have been going on fandom wise recently.

Firstly - I've managed to get an account on Pottermore! Yay! I've never really been active in the HP fandom, but I'm a huge fan of the books and the movies, so there was no way I was going to miss out on a chance to gain early access to this. And if I find it isn't for me? Well, my daughter will get a huge kick out of it, so yay all round! :D

Secondly - I have to admit that my heart sank when I heard that Seasonal Spuffy was moving to DW, but that was mainly because I knew how upset some of the Spuffy fandom on LJ were going to be (and I understand that, I really do). But there's no way the move will make me abandon one of the best Spuffy communities around, so I'm planning on adding the RSS feed to my LJ flist (as there's no way I'll remember to check DW every day!) and reading the contributions as I always do. :)

Thirdly - I refuse to be made to abandon LJ because of the DDoS attacks. I have accounts on DW and Google+ as well as LJ (and am loving them all), but my homebase is still LJ. But that doesn't mean that I won't be posting elsewhere - all it means is that I won't be leaving LJ. I think there's room enough for them all. :)

Fourthly - I've been watching a fair bit of TV lately, but that can be shared in a post all of its own. Just one question: I know of at least one person on my flist who watches it, but has anyone else been watching The Hour on the BBC? Dominic West from The Wire is in it - and I love it! I eagerly await each new episode every week. It's just a pity there are only six episodes.

And that's it for now. :)

I first posted this in 2008, but felt the time was right to post a much needed reminder of why I love Spike and Buffy and the Spuffy relationship as much as I do.

I wasn't sure whether I should post about this or not, but as a long time Spuffy shipper I thought I'd say a little bit about how I feel about the comics.

I still love Spuffy with a fiery burning passion. I can't help it, I just do. And as much as I love The Vampire Diaries and True Blood, no other show or characters have ever made me feel the way I do about Spike and Buffy, and I doubt they ever will. Spike and Buffy (and the Spuffy ship) were special, and somehow seemed to take on a life of their own that transcended anything I'd ever seen before or since.

I've been in love with Spuffy for more than a decade, but for me canon ended with Chosen/Not Fade Away. I have read the comics (including the preview pages), so I'm not saying this without knowing the full story. But the Spuffy of the comics isn't my Spuffy. They're not recognisable as the Spike and Buffy I fell in love with on the show, so they don't meet my own personal expectations of where I hoped they would be (and where I felt they were heading) after the show ended. And I'm not going to lie, I'm disappointed in what the comics have shown me of my ship. I never expected a happy ending in canon, but somehow I found myself expecting...more.

My only consolation is that this fandom has been through many stormy waters before, and has always come out the other side stronger than it was before. Maybe this time will be the same? :)

After a long hiatus, Lostboy has updated his wonderful story Clocks of the Long Now.

Summary: This story begins post-Chosen, then rockets into an angsty, dystopian post-NFA future that finds Buffy questioning the loyalties of her closest allies.

This is a "Spuffy" tale, in the sense that it is the Buffy romance that is explored (and respected.) However, the relationship itself is not the primary focus of the book. It's an ensemble piece.

Highly recommended.

Let's hope we don't have quite as long to wait until the next update! :)

Do you know what amuses me most about the latest spoiler from the BtVS S8 comics?

So many people (and I include myself in this) keep on saying that they 'really don't care what happens', that they're 'not interested' and that they 'don't count what happens in the comics as canon', and yet...when something happens that they really don't like (or really do like - it works both ways!)? They can't help but post about it, expressing their displeasure (or amusement *g*) at the latest development!

So it strikes me that they care about what happens so much more than they like to admit!

And that's understandable.

Spoilers for S8 )

But putting the comics to one side for a moment...

I've been thinking about fandom lately, and how other people see those of us who are involved in one. Without naming any names, I've been dabbling in a few other fandoms lately (but mainly on the outside looking in)...and I haven't really liked what I've seen. There are some seriously weird people out there! And I have to wonder - is that how other people see us? Do we come across like that to them?

I guess that answers that one then! *g*

Late to the party (as I always seem to be these days), but the amazing [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna has posted another beautiful piece of Spike/Buffy meta. Definitely one not to miss if you're a Spuffy fan!

"It wouldn't be you, Spike. It would never be you. You're beneath me."

*happy sigh*

Enjoy!

The first chapter of Power and Prophecy by [livejournal.com profile] dampersnspoons has been posted. It's the sequel to Delust or Dust, which is a must read fic that was written for the [livejournal.com profile] seven_seasons LJ community.

I'm sure everyone on my flist has already seen this, but I've only just finished reading this wonderful story today:

Title: Delust or Dust
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dampersnspoons
Rating: NC-17 for adult language and sexual situations
Warnings: Graphic sex (eventually), blood play and language.
Season/Pairing: BtVS Season 3, Buffy/Spike, Willow/Oz, Xander/Cordelia, Angel/his discontent, Giles/missing spatula
Spoilers: Starts with the episode Lover's Walk, so anything up until that point could be mentioned. Some lines from the episode will be used in this fic.
Genre(s): Comedy/Fluff, Romance
Summary: Starts off with the episode "Lover's Walk" and then goes AU practically from the start. Spike has returned to Sunnydale, heartbroken that Drusilla has left him. When a love spell goes horribly wrong, how will the Scoobies react when the slayer gets involved with yet another vampire? Will Giles wipe his glasses in disapproval? Will Xander not understand but be too enamored with the visuals to say anything? Is Angel going to brood about it or will he do something more? WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

Complete in 15 chapters. To be continued in the follow-up story, Power and Prophecy.

From the darkness and angst of my last fic rec, to the lightness and comedy (although there is some angst in there) of this one.

Enjoy! :)

Chapter 3 of Influence of Demons by [livejournal.com profile] gabrielleabelle has been posted.

This story gets better and better with every chapter. If you like a story that's deliciously dark, but with a very believable and well-written Buffy and Spike, then this one's for you. Enjoy! :)

I'll reply to the comments on my last post in the morning. This week has been extremely hectic, but I should be able to set aside some time for catching up on LJ tomorrow. Yay! :)

I know I'm waaay behind on replying to comments, but my Spuffy obsession has completely taken hold of me again. It had been a while since I'd had the time (or the inclination) to read fanfic, but I came across some Spuffy stories that I hadn't seen before...and that was that. And now I can't stop reading it. Old fic. New fic. Kinky fic. Romantic fic. Angsty fic. Hot, hot, hot fic. I can't get enough of it!

The bottom line is...

I've fallen in love with my favourite vampire and his slayer all over again.

And OMG, it feels sooo good!

I never want this feeling to go away.

Oh Spuffy...how I've missed you! Every time I think I'm starting to love you less, something happens to remind me that my heart really does belong to you. :)

I love my shiny new fandoms (especially my boy Dean Winchester *wibble*, and the hotness that is Captain John/Captain Jack), but the love story that is Spike and Buffy will live on in my heart forever.

I will go down with this ship

Oh yes, I SO will.

*happy sigh*
caliente_uk: (Ever Changing Spike by kazzy_cee)
There have been so many posts that have already said what I want to say about Spike, only they've said it so much better than I can. People like [livejournal.com profile] jamalov29, whose Spike is so very much like my Spike.

But here, to the best of my ability, is my Spike:

My Spike )

And that's just a fraction of what I could say. :)

My love of Spike is still as strong as it ever was. I can't see that ever changing.

*raises glass to Spike - the best fictional character ever*

I have so much to thank Spike for. Without him, I would never have known who James Marsters was. I would never have met so many wonderful people. Spike opened up a whole new world for me, that I would never have known if I hadn't fallen in love with him. Because of him, I found all of you. I became a fan of James Marsters, and a part of a fandom that I love, even if it is a little crazy at times. ;) James brought Spike to life. Without him, Spike wouldn't have been even half the character he was. At one time, I thought that I would always think of Spike when I looked at James. But I now think of the two as completely seperate entities. Spike lives on in my head, and in the many stories I read about him. James...well, James continues to bring me happineess through new acting roles, through his music and personal appearances, and through the people I continue to meet who admire him as much as I do.

Without James there would never have been Spike. Without Spike I would never have found James. Without either of them I would never have found all of you. So I think I have a lot to thank them for. :)

Happy 10th Birthday, Spike. I'll never forget the day you crashed into my life!

To finish this post I've uploaded a song by John Barrowman that means a lot to me on a personal level, but that also makes me think of Spike every time I hear it. I hope you enjoy. :)

After having an almost complete break from the internet for a while, I thought it was about time I showed my face again. :)

And what better way to show my face than with a couple of fanfic recs?

During my absence I've been immersing myself in Spuffy fanfic. Practically drowning myself in it, in fact. Rather than allowing myself to wallow in a bucket of self-pity (which would have been *so* easy to do *g*), I've thrown myself head first into the wonderful world that is Spike and Buffy.

So on we go with the Spuffy. :)

Let's Get Lost by [livejournal.com profile] herself_nyc

From the author:

A slayer on the run from her duties, and a vampire on the run from his soul, meet up in summertime Manhattan, 1997 ... and like everyone else in summertime Manhattan, head out to the East End of Long Island ....

Now complete, with a sequel planned for the future. This one has *really* started people talking. Unforgettable. Join [livejournal.com profile] herself_nyc_fic to read.

Heart Don't Lie by [livejournal.com profile] nautibitz

From the author:

An authorized sequel to OFQ (Original Fanfic Queen) Saber ShadowKitten's "Humping Like Bunnies" (Read it first! You shan't be sorry.) She supplied the brilliant title for a sequel, I went from there. In the previous story, Buffy and Spike were -- oops! -- transformed into rabbits by Willow. Humping naturally ensued. Here's the zany aftermath.

As good as complete, with an epilogue to come. Hot, funny, hot, snarky, moving, smutty, brilliant dialogue...and did I say hot? ;) Excellent! Join [livejournal.com profile] nautific to read.

And last but not least, the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] anaross has started a new Spuffy fic! Only one chapter so far:

Gimme Shelter Chapter One by [livejournal.com profile] anaross

From the author:

AU after Not Fade Away. Takes place in London. Giles is running the Slayer, Inc., and has bunches of teenaged girls defying his every command.

Amnesia fic! What's not to love? :)

All three fics are completely different, but are all Spuffy at they're very best. Enjoy!

And for those of you on my flist who might be interested...

I'm going to Cardiff. Yay! :D

I've seen this done by others on my flist, so I'm going to have a go at it myself.

Of course, there are many other reasons why I love BtVS. Joyce, all of S6, FFL, Punk Spike...the list could go on and on.

One of the main reasons to be grateful for BtVS, though, is that it brought me to all of you. Without it, I would never have been part of a fandom that has given me so much. So for that I am eternally grateful. Thank you!

Thanks to everyone for all your comments on my last post. Sorry I haven't been able to answer them yet. I've got the flu, so I'm taking a short LJ and internet break. Be back as soon as I'm feeling better! :)

K went back to school on Wednesday. She's bounced back remarkably well, as she always does. Getting back into a normal routine has done her the world of good.

We haven't heard anything from the hospital, so we don't know when the op is going to be yet. I'm just glad it wasn't this week after all.

*hugs to you all*

Spike and Spuffy are proving to be my salvation yet again. Where would I be without them? Thanks to all you fanfic writers out there, my favourite couple are helping to keep me sane. Their story still touches me more than any other fictional couple ever has before. And Spike...well, he's *Spike*. I don't really need to say any more than that, do I? He may get knocked down time and time again, but he always gets back up again. Is it any wonder that I'm still as madly in love with him as I ever was? :)
