Well, I've read 42/50 books so far this year. A few of them were 800 plus pages, so it feels as though I've read more books than I actually have. *g*

Do you think I'll make it to my 50 book goal? Or have I left it too late? 8 books in a month. Hmm, I'll give it a go, but it's going to be close! :)

So today is comicwank day. Oh dear. And that's all I have to say about that. Thank goodness S8 is almost over!

It's still freezing cold outside, but the snow seems to have stopped (thank goodness). K's college (which is based at her old school) was open, but she decided not to go in anyway, as the roads were treacherous this morning and it takes her a good hour on the school bus to get there. She's also got a severe muscle strain in her shoulder that she should be resting, which is easier said than done when you're a wheelchair user and rely on your arms to get around! And in this weather getting around is a nightmare. *sigh*

Hope it's not too cold where you are! :)
caliente_uk: (bill - do I look like I sparkle)
I went to see The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with K this afternoon. She's been wanting to see it for ages, but I have to admit to being less than enthusiastic at the thought of sitting through two hours of sparkly vampires. But I finally gave in and agreed to go with her today. The things I do for that daughter of mine! *g*

To be fair, it wasn't that bad - in fact, I quite enjoyed it. I still find sparkly Edward and the Edward/Bella romance boring, but there were some great action scenes, and I quite like the werewolves. Team Jacob all the way for me! :D

Since I posted about K's anonymous good fairy earlier today, I've been doing a little bit of digging. And guess what? I think I know who it is. :)

So, thank you, K's anonymous fairy. You know who you are! That was such a lovely thing to do. *squishes you*

:D

K sends her love.

And yes, you do still give the best hugs ever! *g*

Thank you so much to the lovely anonymous fairy who sent my daughter a 2009 Torchwood calendar, signed with a personalised autograph from Gareth David Lloyd!! It was such a lovely surprise when it arrived through our letter box this morning. K is over the moon with it! She's had an awful time over the last few weeks (after the sudden deaths of her great-aunt and close school friend), so this is exactly what she needed to put a smile on her face. She's been full of squee all day! :D

I wish I knew who you were, so I could thank you properly. But if you're reading this, know that it means so much to me that you care enough to do such a wonderful thing for my daughter. I appreciate it more than you could ever know. It's such a kind and thoughtful thing for you to do. Thank you! *many hugs to you*

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post about K, and to my latest instalment of Spike through the years. I will reply to everyone individually, but I'm going through a bit of a family crisis right now, so won't be able to get around to them for at least a couple of days. The next installment of my Spike series probably won't be posted until early next week. Sorry! :)

[livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat - I'll be sending an email to you shortly, as I would really appreciate some advice. I hope that's okay!

It seems that June is the month for great new communities! Want a general icon - one that's not related to a particular fandom or celebrity? Then [livejournal.com profile] gen_icons is just the place for you. Go check it out now! :)

I'm slowly easing myself back into fandom life again following my enforced absence due to RL issues. While the issues of my RL still remain, I feel that the time is right for me to try and get some sort of "normality" back into my life again. And that most definitely includes fandom. As crazy as fandom can be at times, it really does help keep me sane! :D

And before I forget, congratulations to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] lmbossy on the birth of her new baby daughter! I can't tell you how good it feels to be able to announce some good news for a change. :D I'm so happy for you, Claire! Can't wait to see the new arrival. I'm sure she's every bit as lovely as her Mum! *squishes you* K sends lots of love and kisses to you both. *hugs*

Flu

Thanks to everyone for all your comments on my last post. Sorry I haven't been able to answer them yet. I've got the flu, so I'm taking a short LJ and internet break. Be back as soon as I'm feeling better! :)

K went back to school on Wednesday. She's bounced back remarkably well, as she always does. Getting back into a normal routine has done her the world of good.

We haven't heard anything from the hospital, so we don't know when the op is going to be yet. I'm just glad it wasn't this week after all.

*hugs to you all*

Spike and Spuffy are proving to be my salvation yet again. Where would I be without them? Thanks to all you fanfic writers out there, my favourite couple are helping to keep me sane. Their story still touches me more than any other fictional couple ever has before. And Spike...well, he's *Spike*. I don't really need to say any more than that, do I? He may get knocked down time and time again, but he always gets back up again. Is it any wonder that I'm still as madly in love with him as I ever was? :)

I probably won't be around LJ much over the next few weeks or so. My daughter finishes school next week to begin preparation for her surgery (which takes place on February 14th), so my online time is going to be very limited. I'll try to post as often as I can, but it will probably be few and far between.

I'll let you all know as soon as I can how the surgery goes. We're within touching distance of it now. It's a scary feeling, but I have to admit that we're more than ready for it. It will (hopefully) be the beginning of a new and improved life for K...and that's very exciting! :)

It was my husband's 40th birthday on Thursday, so this weekend we celebrated in style by going to see Blood Brothers at the Birmingham Hippodrome.

Wow, what a show! I knew very little about it before going to see it, but I was blown away by it. The acting, the singing, the emotion of it was just outstanding! I've seen lots of shows (both in the West End and here in Birmingham), but Blood Brothers is right up there with the best of them...if not the best. I can't recommend it highly enough! It finished its run in Birmingham last night, but do go and see it if you ever get the chance. You won't regret it! It's funny, sad, heartwarming and in the end heartbreaking, but you don't feel weighed down by misery like you can with some shows. Blood Brothers had us laughing most of the way through, while leaving us heartbroken at the end. The actor who played Mickey was amazing! He could have you laughing one minute and then crying the next. Definitely a performance to remember!

I want to experience it all over again. *sigh*

Yay! Pre-orders of the "Words and Music" DVD are now being shipped, so I should get my copy shortly. I can't wait! :D

The Lotto draw was on while I was writing this post, and nearly gave me a heart attack. We've had the same numbers every week since it started, but Paul is ill with the flu, so hasn't been out today to put our numbers on (which is something he usually does on a Saturday afternoon)...and guess what? The first four numbers out were our numbers! Honestly, my heart was in my mouth. We've still lost money, but imagine if all SIX had come out? Gah! It doesn't bear thinking about.

Wishing a very happy birthday to my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] cara_leigh9!! I hope you have a wonderful day. *hugs*

What can I say about [livejournal.com profile] cara_leigh9? She's a wonderful wife, an excellent mother to her four girls, and one of the best friends anyone could ask for. I'm proud to have you as my friend, Caraleigh. *hugs and smooches you*

I'm going away for the weekend with my family. We're leaving early tomorrow morning and will be back some time on Monday evening. :)

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by hurricane Rita. Please stay safe! Special hugs go to [livejournal.com profile] st_salieri. I hope your journey goes well and you arrive in Dallas safely. *hugs you*

Wishing a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] marsterslady for Saturday! I hope you have a wonderful day, Alley. You're one of the sweetest, kindest people I know, and I'm so glad to have met you. *hugs and smooches you*

See you all on Monday! :)

I've finally gone wireless. Yay! It's taken the best part of the day to get everything set up and running, but I'm now connected to the internet through my new wireless router. :)

My baby laptop was the easiest to set up, taking only a few minutes to get connected. It was the two desktop pc's that took all the time. I'm not very good when it comes to taking computers apart, so I'm quite proud of the fact that I managed to install the two wireless pc cards all on my own.

I'll now be able to use my laptop anywhere in the house and garden. My husband is going to be so pleased when I take it to bed with me. Hee! ;)

Hola!

We arrived home from Spain late last night. Had a wonderful time, but it's good to be home. I've got lots of catching up to do, and judging by my emails, lots of new fic to read. Yay! I doubt I'll be able to catch up on all the posts that have been posted in the last two weeks, but I'll try. If anyone has any news they'd like to share, please reply to this post. I've missed my LJ fix! :D

*hugs to you all*

Dr Who had been on for around ten minutes when we had a power cut! So I've only seen the first ten minutes so far. And what a bloody good ten minutes it was! The electric was off for about an hour and a half and has only just come back on. So now I've got to wait until it's repeated later tonight on BBC Three...providing the electric stays on, of course. Aaagh!

My husband isn't in my good books either. He can't understand why I like Dr Who so much and has been an irritating pain in the ass tonight. According to him, I'm like a child who has lost their favourite toy. I shouldn't get upset over missing a "kids show"!! Just you wait until the next Aston Villa match is on TV! I'm going to turn the electric off just as it gets to an important part of the game. See how he likes that!

Men! I sometimes wonder why we bother with them at all.

I have to admit, I probably did go over the top...but it was Dr Who! I'd been looking forward to it all week. :D
